Gentlemen .What is the consensus of using a bipod for field support ? How is point of impact affected with a rifle zeroed on bags ? Ive read about " loading the bipod" for consistency . Thoughts ?

I do all my zeroing off a bipod and a rear bag. I’ve found I am more stable when slightly loading a bipod than I am off a front bag.

I get zeroed off a bag and then check off a bipod to make sure it is the same.

Of all the rifles I shoot off bags and bipods at different times, if there is any differrence in POI it is pretty darned small. However, best to check before your hunt to be sure...

I find I shoot sporter weight rifles better off a bipod than a front rest, I don't know why. My varmint weight rifles it's pretty much no difference. I do pre-load the bipod by leaning into it a bit when shooting, it's natural after a few shots.

I shoot all my rifles from a bipod in the field and during sight-in. My current bipod is a GG&G XDS-2 and it is very nice and sturdy. I prefer it greatly over the Harris type bipods...JMO.

My load development is done off a rest but trajectories are verified using a tripod. Never much card for bipods and find the tripod far more stable and easier for everyone in my group to use. In the field I use the tripod as a walking aid. The last few years most of my shots have been off the tripod. Currently have three of the Primos Trigger Sticks and the extras tend to get borrowed by family members in my group. Daughter #1 has made most of her kills using one of them.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.
