Gnoahhh made mention of this rifle a while back, in another thread. Our friends sold it to me then, but I didn't have the cash to pay for it. They were gracious enough to let me take it home and pay when I could. I put it in a case they had, stuck it in the safe, and never looked at it or touched it. Friday I was able to send them a check for what I owed. This morning I took it out of the case and admired it. It's a bit hard to put to words. Our friend had many custom rifles, most way beyond my means. But, this one was special enough to him, that he had it made, and being a 25-35 it's special to me. I feel honored that I have a rifle that is a piece of our friendship, liked by both of us. I need to get a set of rings. My local shop is closed on Monday's, so I'll get a set tomorrow. I also bought a Leupold 1.5X5 from them for it. After carrying my 1899 feather weights, this little rifle feels a bit heavy, but it does come up and swing nice. After I get the scope mounted I'll post some range reports.

Yes, it was a custom. The guy that built the rifle had records on it. I asked if he had the rate of twist . Unfortunately, his records said "customer supplied barrel". Should be easy enough to figure out with the old cleaning rod trick. I do have the factory 375 Win barrel the rifle came with.

The Winchester 25-35 has a special following so similar to the 250/3000 except for you Savage 99 guys......nice snag.

I wish Marlin would make a special run of 25-35 rifles.

They did, it's called the 25-36 Marlin. Nice story Joe, let me know if you're getting rid of your lightweight 250 now... wink

Sorry Jeff, I only have 5, 250’s. One is a parts gun I’m thinking about putting a custom 1:9 barrel on so it will spin a longer bullet.

Gary and I took a couple guns to the range 2 weeks ago, the #3 and his Winchester single shot. We punched a bunch of holes in paper then got bored, so we started shooting rocks on the berm. He had his 03 sniper rifle too. That thing with cast loads didn’t kick any more than the 25, hardly any more than the 22. It was a blast to shoot till we got thirsty with no sore shoulder.

Doc, I Remember way back when, when I was into Contenders, I wanted a #1 in something big, I’m so glad I got this little #3 in 25-35 instead. It’s such a pleasure to shoot. Head shots on squirrels, rabbits, and dimes are a gimme at 50 yards. I’ll give you a call, we should be having our spring weekend in WV soon, even if it’s summer.

Not trying to change the course of this thread, but years ago I sent a H&R 22 Hornet barrel to Wayne York to rechamber and rebore to 25 Remington, which is a clone to the 25/35 Winchester. The rifle, like yours, is a joy to shoot. I've killed mule deer and antelope with it with 100-117 grain jacketed bullets, and rabbits with 86 grain cast bullets loaded with Trail Boss.

For years I tried to talk a friend into selling me his 30/40 Krag in a #3, but he never would, so finally I had the same gunsmith rechamber an H&R 30/30 into a 30/40 Krag. Not quite so pleasant as the 25 Remington, but not bad either.

Cool!

I have a #3 in 223 and took a deer with it this year. I have been considering getting it rebarreled, but it shoot so well in 223 that I am hesitant to change it.

Well ... if you don't mind changing brands, I see .25-35 listed in the Winchester '94. Don't know if they're shipping nor how many will be made.
