ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - 10:50 a.m. Update:

Authorities have identified the man killed in a plane crash off of Cascade Bay in Prince William Sound. The victim has been identified as William Resinger, 75 of Palmer.

According to the Alaska State Troopers, Resinger was a passenger on board the plane, piloted by Scott Johannes age 56, of Wasilla, with the tail number of N5457X.

Troopers say the plane had two passengers on board when the plane attempted to land in the bay, instead crashing into the water. Johannes and the other passenger were able to escape, but AST reports Resinger was trapped inside the plane, which was turned upside down in the water.

Good Samaritans responded in boats, and Resinger was eventually taken from the downed plane. CPR was initiated, but AST said it was not successful.

Johannes and the surviving passenger were transported to an Anchorage hospital. The two reported general injuries, according to the USCG.

This marks the third fatal plane crash in Alaska in just 8 days.

5:50 a.m. Update:

Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed Wednesday that one of the victims in Tuesday's plane crash had died, and two others aboard were complaining of injuries.

According to Chief Charly Hengen with the USCG, one of the victims died Tuesday night after becoming unresponsive around 8 p.m. That individual's name has not yet been released by authorities.

The other two people on board reportedly described general injuries, including pain in their chest area, Hengen said.

"It saddens us that one person did succumb to their injuries," Hengen told KTUU. "Our thoughts and prayers most definitely are with their loved ones at this time."

Original Story:

A plane has crashed in Prince William Sound near Cascade Bay, with three people on board being rescued by Good Samaritans, according to a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard, Alaska Air National Guard and Good Samaritans responded to the report of the downed Cessna Skywagon at about 2 p.m. about 20 miles southwest of Valdez.

The three people who were on board the aircraft were picked up by Good Samaritans, the Coast Guard said. Two of them are being taken to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage by an Alaska Air Natoinal Guard helicopter, and the third is being taken by boat to Whittier emergency medical services.

The extent of their injuries is unknown.

This is a developing story and will be updated with more information as we receive it.

One of our USFWS pilots did that some years ago in Saskatchewan. I am so glad I was not with him. Pilot and observer got out OK but it front flips them every time.

Wow that's terrible ....

I used to work for the pilot as a sub-contractor and carpenter, Scott Johannes was the owner of Criterion General Inc. at the time,
Back when we built the Three Bears store in Pittman (2004-05, it was The Pittman Food Warehouse originally) he had won an airplane by buying a $50 raffle ticket from an employee ( not sure if it's the same airplane that just crashed)
Winning the airplane spurred him to build a 3 bay turntable type hangar at the Wasilla Airport which I also worked on,

Sad to hear that someone died in the crash
