Don't know the law there in Florida but here in Tx your vehicle is considered an extension of your home.
Someone trying to steal your car is a justifiable defense for the use of deadly force.

Agree with others ...got a cold chill when I read she shot him as he was driving away.....that ain’t self defense. But....I would have done the same thing I suspect. I had a dear friend here in SW GA who did the exact same thing. Caught two guys spotlighting on his farm. Only difference is they shot at him first, drove away. He took his deer rifle out of his truck and shot one of the fellas as he was speeding away. His shot blew out the guys back and he was DRT.

This is SWGA, plantation country, old families, old money. Still....that guy ended up having the fight of his life to avoid prison....and the jury was very stacked in his favor! Still, it took a team of Philadelphia, Atlanta, and local lawyers to keep him out of prison.

Hope the lady is ok.

I was home one day, two black boys knocked on the door. I had my 12 gauge in my hands by the time they got from truck to front door. They knocked, rang bell, I heard handle rattle, one came to the back, tried the back door. If he had jimmied the door and camei in, I would have shot him, but they left. I called the law, gave them the plate. They caught them at another house inside. It scared me, but I was glad to be armed.

Here is something to think about. When those two perps stole the car, they had the owners name and home address on the insurance and/or registration paperwork in the glove box. Who would want those two out free as birds with that information. The woman was probably scard chitless. BTW, I see no reference in the article or video as to the "color" of the mom who shot the perp. Here name is Louise Ornduff and her son's name is Kalaeb.

Florida Statute Section 812.133(b) explains that an act is deemed to be “in the course of the taking” if it occurs either prior to, contemporaneous with, or subsequent to the taking of the property and if it and the act of taking constitute a continuous series of acts or events.

Think if one researches the Floriduh 'Stand your ground ' law you will find we can protect our life and the lives of others...anywhere. We may also protect our personal property.

I hope she gets an all white jury.
I hope he does. She's not being charged.
