You boys better hold on to your hats. It's been blowing around 27nts here for several days, with a vortex over Missouri. When it does that, your about to catch hell a day or two later. It's basically like a weak hurricane, without water, heading north with storms on the outer bands of winds.

Niece in MO hunkered down in the bath tub with the kids, and under a mattress.

Just got back to the house about 10 minutes ago. I'm a volunteer with our Emergency Management Agency and have been out spotting. No funnels in our county but several where spotted in some of the surrounding counties. Almost continuous lightning for 45 minutes or so as well as heavy rain. Had to turn around at one bridge as water was over it.

Keep your eyes on Truman Lake and Lake of the Ozarks. Truman is rising 2' to 2 1/2' per 24 hours. Normal pool is 706' and now it's 729. It hit 738.6something in'86 and an old friend that worked for the Corps told me that it was about 6" from over topping the Sterett Creek levee that runs along U.S.65.

One of the KC tv stations said that it had rained 18 of the last 25 days and that was last night.

Will be another bad turkey hatch in this area... 5 years in a row. Very few fields planted too.

Thankfully, all that bad weather has spared my part of the country. I hate those tornadoes, and we don't need flooding rains.

I've got a basement with a concrete room under the front entryway of my house, concrete all the way around. a 5x8 room.

The plant manager that hired me out of college retired a few years ago was out of town last night. Just saw picture of his house without a roof on it. After the tornado went through we got several inches of rain, so I'm sure he has a mess. Headed over there with chainsaws after lunch to start clearing his yard and another coworker that lives 2 doors down from him.

I had seen some shelters where they are above the surrounding ground but covered by about 3 foot of soil. Wonder how they work in an emergency. They look safe.
