So several days ago I saw a nice classic stainless featherweight in 270 Win on Gunbroker. Don’t know the serial number, but has the thin red pad, no box, possibly unfired. Seemed underpriced, There was one bid at the opening price. I put in a slightly higher bid and there was never another. Just got notice that I won it. Very surprised. I have a 25-06, 7RM, and a couple 7-08s, so I sure didn’t need it.

Anyway, I didn’t think it would ever go as cheap as it did. What are you seeing for prices on these now days?

Nice rifle. Pretty nice wood.
I don't know the market, but if I wanted another one, I'd have gladly paid that price.
New Haven? How many digits?
I've an identical one. If I ever finish the project, it is going into a Banser stock and will be one of my primary hunting rifles.

You know, I didn’t ask about the number of digits, but I think that the thin red pads were only on New Haven guns and they were the earlier rather than late production. I’ll post again when I get it.

I thought these things were bringing $750+, but there are a lot of the new production stainless/walnut M70s out now - at $1000+

I saw one of those in 7x57mm a few years ago, didn't know they existed in that caliber until I had it in my hands

I think the new ones are muddying the water a bit. Seller probably should have listed “classic” somewhere in the ad. But I didn’t tell them that 😉

I wasn’t aware of that, either. I think there were some 7mm-08s, but wasn’t aware of 7x57. Very recently here I posted a gunbroker auction link for a 7x57 stainless “ultimate classic” that went for $2700-2800.

I would have gladly paid that. I have sort of been looking for one but I must have slept through that one. Dang! And that seller is super to deal with too.

LGS here has a stainless Classic with BOSS in 30-06 plastic stock for $599. If it sits around much longer, I might buy it just because.

Even with the "dial a deer" on the barrel? That corncob on the end is a turn off for me.

I wonder if I will ever see a thread that mentions a BOSS without someone commenting on how they don't like it? People who normally don't offer their opinions on much of anything else for some reason seem compelled to express their dislike of the BOSS.

Anyway, IMO the BOSS with the conventional recoil (CR) weight is a pretty good thing if you do not hand load. Hand loaders may find it useful as well, but they have other tools in their toolbox.

Price was a reflection of the stock issues. You still did well.

I agree. Seller did a real honest job of pointing out the scuffs and scratches. I’m hoping they are not quite so prominent in person. One good thing about that is I don’t have to worry about making the first scratch myself!

New Haven rifles are picking up in popularity, price and value.

Going to be a lot of guys 15-20 years from now sorry they didn't buy them when they could afford them.
