I now have a Dell which has been a piece of junk since day one. Dell use to have great CS but it is now at the point where it is all but gone. I am tired of talking to someone in India or elsewhere to try and solve the many problems and issues with it, In other words their service sucks, Thinking of HP and want to know if anyone has had any dealings with them. Apples are out of my price range as I want a stand alone unit

We use them exclusively here at work. I support about 600 of them - desktops and laptops. Solid so far

Curious as to what type of "many problems and issues" you are having.

Then you can't afford good CS so it doesn't matter which you choose.

By this do you mean a desk top unit vs a lap top? Any computer you buy can potentially be a POS right from the start if it has a faulty part, such as a mother board or power supply. What are the problems you are having with your Dell - related to OS or hardware? Windows 10 can be very problematic especially with the auto updates and older software.

Problems, where to start. Screen goes blank so I have to restart it, unit freezes up so again have to shut it down and restart, unit will not shut down by activating the off switch so here again have to unplug the power cord, looking at one program and unit switches to another but suspect that is windows 10 fault. Talking to customer service people that I have a hard time understanding and spending literally hours on the phone trying to fix problems that seem to repeat regularity oh and for stickfight, I'm 82 so it seems stupid to invest a lot of money on something that will probably outlast me. All I want is a dependable unit and if there is a problem I can get the customer service I need. I have listed just a few of the problems I have had with this unit

I would take it to a well rated "local" PC repair shop. I have one (husband/wife) here that is reasonable in cost and very competent.

I pretty much stopped having computer issues when I switched from Dell to HP.

I did have one issue with a laptop keyboard, and they offered me the option of sending it in, or sending me a new keyboard with instructions on installing it.

I installed it myself. No problem.

If it's just a home computer and you're not dealing with any specialized programs and don't want to deal with computer issues ever again - an Apple Mac is what you want. If new is out of your price range, look at used on craiglist where you can check it out before you buy. I'm typing this on an 8 year old MacBook pro laptop. Works just fine for home use and never a problem in those 8 years. None. Nada.

Take EdM advice. Most shops will trouble shoot problems for free or a minimal cost. It could be a faulty memory module or even the power supply. I get the age thing as I am 71. I still rum Win7 don't trust Win10 especially the updates. I am even trying to learn Linux Mint to try to ditch Windows altogether.

I got an Apple laptop with a large separate monitor.

Operating system upgrades are free. Any question I have, I call AppleCare and get an American. Photos with my iPhone get automatically uploaded to the laptop. All the stuff on the laptop is automatically backed up on Apple's cloud, for which I get debited 99 cents per month.

Oh, and no viruses.

Apple costs a lot less than you realize.
