There once was a small book that had all the history and information of Sheridan air guns...long out of print at one time over $100 if you could find one. Just found out that the original author has now brought out a second edition that is updated with more information. I just ordered one and should be here tomorrow....

Interesting. I was just given an old Sheridan that has some war wounds that I plan on cleaning up. According to the serial # mine is from 1978. The rifle action it’s self doesn’t look bad at all, but the stock looks like it might have clubbed a few baby seals in its day. After refinishing the stock I plan on keeping it out at my buddies place as plinker for anyone that wishes to do so. I have an old single shot .22 I keep there too.

The new edition is about 3 times the thickness of the 1993 first edition. About a third of it's thickness is a new appendix that contains reproductions of old manuals, instructions and parts lists.

Well I stripped the stock last night and tonight I’m trying something maybe stupid. I put it in the dishwasher and turned it on. There are a ton of dents everywhere I and I have heard it’s a good way to steam a bunch out at once. Time will only tell how bad I screwed up.

We bought my son one when he was 10 he's 38 now! I still have it, he does not hunt or shoot. I'm going to teach his 4 boys how to shoot. Maybe I can hey one or more to hunt.

Our Family has one that grandpa bought for our dad's. He lived in Racine all his life and I think the ser. no. is 502. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I think we lost the peep sight, but everything else is in good shape.

Unfortunately it's not with me. It was different than a Blue Streak or the Sliver Streak in that the wood (walnut, I think) went up the barrel only part way like a regular forearm. Top tang safety and a really nice peep sight. I wish a could tell you more.

Edited to add: Reading wiki about it, I do believe its the model A. The peep, the safety, the nice wood, and the dates, etc. all seem to point to the model A.

I was thinking it might be an "A" or "B" from the chronology you laid out and because the "C's" were not serialized until 1971 or so. (but the A's and B's were all serial numbered). I have a friend that collects those and he just refurb'd a Model B that I got to examine yesterday. I snapped some pictures and will try to post them here.

Ah yes, it's very similar. Does it have the safety on the tang? I remember it having good wood like yours too. I think the receiver may have been a bit different though.

Not my rifle. The A and B are similar with the B's being rarer. If your family ever decides to part with the rifle, I'm sure my friend would be interested in buying. One of the cool things I noticed is that the stock was cut as a single piece then parted for the buttstock and the forearm. The model C's are not like that...different pieces of wood front and back.

I've had my Sheridan for about 55 years. I got for my 11th or 12th birthday. I just bought my another can of pellets. I still shoot it regularly and it is my go to for chipmunks and squirrels. I can only guess how many cans of pellets have gone through this gun. Sheridans are truely a heritage gun. Ps: mine is a Silver streak and has a rocker safety
