Posted on the handgun thread, thought I'd put it here too

Had an errand at the club today, and snuck in a little shooting before I had to leave. It was really a function test.

New to me PMR 30 (newer version with whatever updates the factory has made) with Federal 40 grain rounds.

The good - without my sighting it in, I had no trouble hitting a 6 inch round plate at 35 (yup, 35) yards, offhand and really with just fast rough aim at the target. No careful aim here.

The bad - had magazine problems when I loaded into the low 20's. And you could see it in the magazine on the bench. Under 20, no trouble. And no problems in rapid fire. The gun would empty as fast as I pulled the trigger with no hiccups. Very limited test but promising anyway.

Maybe next week ill get to shoot it "for real".

Kragman,

If Your Pmr 30 is new ...it will take 200-+ rounds to settle down. Keep oiled.

I have had to replace several mags...as I lost them due to poor position of mag release. I carry in a strong crossdraw, and may bump the mag release getting in and out of SXS or 4 Wheeler.

It is always a mystery how I lose them....except when I fell inna ccreek upside down trout fishing.

I load 25 rounds ...eats up 1 box in 2 mags. Fun guns.... quit accurate.

Load your magazine with the full 30, and let it sit for a week.

After that, and shooting it in a bit, it should be fine.

I have 3 friends with the PMR 30's and they all really like them. They also all had magazine issues right out of the gate that resolved with time and use.

I bought a magazine loader from ebay for mine. It works great. Just search PMR30 speed loader.

The magazine needs to be loaded as you load a high capacity mag.

My cousin has had a couple and his main problem is keeping them. Seems to be a popular item in FL, and guys keep thowing cash at him. He loves them.

He also has one of the titanium J frame .22 mags that's his constant companion. Wouldn't mind talking him out of that one myself.

Glad I read this thread. I have had one about a year now. Love it but I too had problems with rounds hanging up when loaded the full 30 rounds. Seems to cycle the best using ballistic tip ammo like Hornady Critical Defense as opposed to using regular hollow points. I have just been loading 25 rounds and have had much more reliable performance.

i enjoy mine and carry it daily when running my dogs. the mags will settle down with use. HATE the mag release.
have come very close to losing a mag several times. mine loves armscor ammo but my 50 yard groups open up to about 4 inches with hornady's . took it ground squirrel shooting today. with a 20mph buffeting wind i got 15 with 45 shots. on a calm day i can double the kills.

I just bought an American Reloader for the PMR, outfit in Michigan. About $ 40.00 ....but works excellent. Made in USA.
