Savage axis 2 now comes with a stock you can add or subtract length from. Maybe that would help?

Savage lady Hunter is build for a woman's frame. It is not simply a shortened man's stock. Same with the Weatherby Camilla line.

Tikka T3x Compact in 6.5 Creedmoor is what you seek.

What’s her experience?

^^^^^this is an awesome recommendation. However if she’s not really experienced starting with a 6.5 CM might be a bit much as far as felt recoil. I started out on a tikka t3 223 with heavy bullets. I learned how to run the gun like second nature and I wasn’t afraid or uncomfortable with the recoil. I still practice and hunt with the 223-unless required by law to use something else.

I started my daughters off with a Savage 223, them moved up to a 243. Although they have fired heavier .30 cal rifles, they prefer to stay in the 243 / 6.5x47L or 6.5 CM range.

Perceived recoil or rumors thereof can cause flinching and other bad habits. Were it me, I'd start with a Ruger American compact in 243, shed the plastic stock for a boyds.

When the comfort level has risen, dump the Ruger, and move up to something a little nicer in a caliber of her choice.

JMHO - YMMV

Years ago my friend at the LGS let my wife shoulder about every rifle in the place to find one that fit her. After about an hour she handled a Kimber and fell in love. Luckily they had one on consignment for just over half of new AND it was a shooter. They have some even leaner models with the Mountain Ascent, and Adirondack models (all under the Mountain family on their site, along with the Montana) now, but they are light and will recoil more. Kimber has a brake on the Mountain Ascent and the Adirondack is threaded, however then you deal with noise. I see Kimber has a Sub MOA guarantee, but know in the past couple years there have been concerns about that guarantee.

Remington Model 7 Youth. Best to let her pick the one that fits best. Try and find a big store with different ones in stock. We found them at BassPro. Wife choose the Model 7.

If she’s good with the 243 ie no flinching etc my vote is definitely for the tikka 6.5CM, and nothing bigger than that for sure. I like the tikka because it’s ridiculously accurate, it’s awesome straight out of the box, cycling the action is extremely smooth(the less strength one possesses the more this matters. Also the savage’s bolt feels like it has corn cobs in it), and I prefer loading a magazine vs top loading. But like some others have said, might be a good idea to take her and let her handle some of the recommendations.

An AR carbine might be another viable option.

I've discovered my wife (5'2") really enjoys the carbines. They fit her well with the stock pretty much all the way in.

This in a chassis with an adjustable stock was my plan for my nieces until they found boys and forgot shooting... I think a Grendel would be good.

Just bought a Savage Storm for the wife.
Stainless, DM, adjustable LOP as well as comb height. LOP goes from 12.75 to 13.75.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

This would be really tough to beat. You could start with a lighter-bullet offering, like the inexpensive 125gr Deer Season XP. The 7mm-08 version makes much sense also, as there are factory lite-loads available. I've shot them in youth 700's and they are much like shooting a .243win with less blast. Still killed well also.

If need be, a thin shoulder pad, like the PAST wingshooting model, could be brought in for range practice. It's not bulky but does mitigate and spread out the recoil impulse during prolonged shooting sessions. I use one all the time on range days when I'm shooting lots of different rifles.

There is a Ruger 77RL in 243 in the classifieds.
Perfect.

Seems everyone forgot about the Savage 99.... in 243 or 250 Savage !!!!

I started my Son at age 10. The 99 was not too long nor too heavy. They don't sit on every shelf but they can be found.
Their price will be higher than some rifles mentioned here but LESS than others.

I suggest you check into them.
