Both have the 2/3 tube.
What is the difference between the 2 models? Just different model years? Barrel length?
I am looking at one of each in .35 Rem that are coming up on live auctions. Not great pictures so can't really compare on computer.

Barrel length. 336A has 24" barrel, 336SC is 20" barrel.

I found a thread on the marlin owners forum. If you search marlin 336 model differences, it will pop up. Just in case you wanted to know additional info. Gringo is correct about the barrel length.

The SCs are very handy rifles. On average however, the As, with those 24 inch barrels, garner higher prices. I have examples of both, including As in 30-30, 32 Winchester special and 35 Remington- circa 1948 - 1951. None are D&T'd and all but the 35 Rem. are waffle tops. The 4 inch longer barrel will give a bit more velocity.

Thanks Guys.
I just picked up the 1975 336RC in .35 rem from jsgwoodsman on here. I like the .35 cal a lot. I have a BLR in .358 win that I have used to great success on moose and whitetails.
I still love the looks of the short feed tube rifles and especially the A's with the longer barrel. I will be on the look out, but need to pace myself. I'm sure ya'll know how that is.

Other differences or features besides barrel length depend on the year each given model was produced, which is why I didn't bother listing more than barrel length in my first post. For instance, in 1960 the 336A was made with a monte carlo comb and added fixed sling swivels.. And of course, Marlin switched from ballard to micro-groove rifling in 1956 and began D&T'ing 336 receivers for mounting scopes in 1960. If you have an interest in acquiring more variations of Marlin 336's, try to find a copy of The 336 by Douglas Murray. I believe it is no longer in print, but copies might turn up here and there. Bought mine years ago while still in print.

Thanks Gringo. Good info there. I'll be on the lookout for that book.
