Didn’t get it out of my system in March. Had to take a buddy and go back.


My buddy Todd was on an all out killing spree. Head shots, body shots, he didn’t care.

Had it not been for Todd I don’t think I woulda got the boar I did. Turns out Todd makes a pretty good flushing dog. He pushed a small group of 5 my way, kinda my way. 100 yards out and running parallel to where I was down a field. I picked the biggest which was tail end Charlie. The Ruger came up like a fine shotgun and rolled him while he was making a hasty retreat at Mach 2.5.

Already looking forward to going back again next year. Here’s some pics.

Not all swine carry that brucellosis, but good idea to wear gloves. Nice porkers!!

You do know that in Texas, feral and domestic pork are classified the same , meaning any live feral hog can be USDA inspected and sole as "pork" after butchering?
Feral hogs are fine to eat of cooked properly and handled right. Same as any other game. Been eating them for 25 years now.

That is a nice looking rifle.

Just about all animal species, from squirrel to skunk ape, can carry one zoonotic disease or another. Best to handle/slaughter game with gloves and inspect them for disease. That is how I taught my kids, as we cleaned the first squirrels and rabbits they shot.

I assume those of y'all who won't eat feral pig also won't touch your pet without gloves or other PPE?

Porcine brucellosis is viable for 48 hrs after the death of the pig. Handel the meat with gloves and eye protection and clean up after with bleach. Freeze and then cook the meat as you would any pork; well, not rare.

Feral hog is free range and organic.

Kind of surprises me that you don't eat them. I too prefer to clean them using gloves, same for deer.
