The brother in law got him a rifle and i loaded some loads for him.

The powders used were Varget,H-322,Benchmark and TAC.

Just a test of 6 loads each but with the 129 grain bullets he wanted to use Tac grouped the best.

27.6 grains of Tac leave some wiggle room if this does not do a number on some hogs.

He is going tonight to test them.

Most data i have seen seem to show most folks shoot lighter bullets,up to 107 grain.

has anybody had any success with heavier bullets.

Thanks.

The greatest bane is COAL latitude. ASC Grendel mags are you greatest favor there.

My POS Bear Creek upper shoots the 123's well enough to shoot pigs with, maybe an inch and a half at 100 yards on a great day, but mostly in the 2 inch range. Most of my pig hunting is limited to 50 yards or so, because of terrain and brush, so it works ok. The lighter stuff, 95 to 107 grain, do better accuracy wise, usually right at an inch, again, if all the planets align on that particular day.

That's the best start.

123's are about it.

Mmm, no. Not sure where you got that idea, 120/123gr is about the most common for the 6.5 Grendel and a couple, like the 123 Amax and ELDM, are designed specifically for the Grendel. Maybe you were looking at data for one of the 6mm Grendel variants?

Up to ~130gr works pretty well in the Grendel, more than that is a bit too much for the small case capacity IMO.

If that 129 is the ABLR, it's a great choice for hunting. Try Leverevolution with that bullet; you'll get into compressed charges for a max load but it shoots well and gives top velocity for that combo.

The 123's might be normal now but it seems that folks are trying for as much speed as they can get.

I will give leverrevolution a go.

That said has anyone tried ar comp with the heavier bullets?

Same asked about cfe-223?

Thanks folks.

How do the 100 gr Partitions run out of a short barreled Grendel?

I think that the heavier than 123-130 grain bullets are a long term project now.

I bought some 100 grain match bullets and using Benchmark have found a load that has promise.

Also going to do some work with CFE223,longshot and others to be named later.

I got my 6.5 upper and other than the gas block getting loose, have had no problems.

It seems to like the expensive Hornaday ammo, hates black and their other stuff.

The quest continues.

Might look at some subsonic loads one day as well.

Longshot? Hope that was a typo, if not, better take a closer look at a powder burn rate chart. CFE223, TAC, 8208, Lever, etc are in the right burn rate range.

120-123gr are now and have been the norm since the beginning. Nothing wrong with the lighter bullets if that's your thing, but they're not really where the Grendel shines either, especially with short barrels.

It was a typo.

Was doing some work on sub sonic for the 556 at the time.

I just wished that there was more data with more powders.

Gleaning stuff on forums and other places gets old.

But the search goes on. whistle
