I picked up a Weatherby Mark-V in 375 H&H on GB. It showed it with a Synthetic stock which I am OK with, until I took the stock off for a better look at. It was not original to the rifle. Someone replaced it and had to open up the barrel channel to get it in the stock. Not a very good job either. I have been looking around about Weatherby contours. It looks like I don't have a standard #4 contour but with smaller barrel OD. The dimensions are good for a #4 contour but my barrel muzzle is only .730. Which appears to shows smaller than a #4 barrel channel. The tapper on the barrel being 2" looks correct for a #4. It is a 9 lug bolt. Any ideas on getting a correct fitting stock? Could I get a #4 contour stock and have it look like it is free floated with the smaller .730 barrel?

Bedding it won't"fix" the problem? Steelbed.

If I was going to keep this stock, I would have to open it up even more. I would rather get a correct fitting stock if I could somehow. My barrel is .730 at the muzzle, Weatherby #4 contour muzzle would be .830 according to the chart I was looking at.

If it’s a factory barrel a call to Weatherby with the serial number would likely be the easiest way to get the right stock. If it’s a decent synthetic and not a milk jug injection molded stock I’d just open it up and bed it. Probably be better than factory that way anyway

As said if the stock is worth the effort uou might consider openning the channel up. Then put several layers of masking tape the length of the barrel, bed the entire barrel channel. This provided a freefloated barrel that should look acceptable. You can add micro beads to the barrel bedding compound to reduce weight if desired.

I called Weatherby, left a message, also sent them a email. Have not heard back from them yet. The first letters in the serial number are SB. That makes it produced 1995-2002. The stock on it is the Tupperware type(cheap). Since it is not original to the rifle, don't know what was factory on it. I would like to put a good synthetic stock replacement on it. If I can find one under $300 that will fit it right.
