I've got a 43 and a 19

Had my bud, who just got his CHL try out both, then we went shopping.

He got the 43X in his hands and said, "this is the one" He has large hands.

I got to shoot it when we got it back to my place.

Seemed to shoot great, and I could "hit" reasonably well with it.

Myself, I like my standard 43 for deep concealment. (shorter grip frame, and "prints" less)

I did like the feel of the 48, but like the old saying, "if it ani't broke, don't fix it"

I "hit" well with my 19 and am sticking to it. It fits MY hands very well.

Beaver10... my wife chose a Shield 9mm for her personal carry firearm about 6 months ago and liked it until she tried shooting a 2-day class with it. She had a lot of problems with fit (she has long fingers and larger-than-average hands for a woman), to the point that she couldn't pass the 60-round qual at the end of TD2. Not good. My wife has a fair bit of experience with revolvers and keeps a S&W M66 as her favored personal handgun, but it ain't suitable for daily business attire concealed carry for obvious reasons.

Your wife and mine aren't alone in hating the Shield. My wife's instructor says it's one of the most popular pistols women bring to his class, and the one that is most often hated by the end of the course.

At the end of the class another gal lent her a Glock 48 and my wife shot a few magazines worth of ammo through it. In short, she loved it, so we bought a G48. The following weekend I had her re-shoot the qualification course of fire and she passed with flying colors. For [bleep] and grins I shot a qual with the G48 myself, back-to-back with my personal G19, and I shot a 300/300 with both. If anything, I'd say the G48 is a bit less good in my (large) hands, but if it was what I had to ride the river with, I wouldn't complain. It's a good pistol. The Gen 5 trigger on the G48 is much nicer than any of the earlier stock Glock triggers, and the first stock Glock trigger I'd keep rather than replacing with a NY-1 trigger mod.

The G48 is basically identical to the G43X frame-wise, but it has a slightly longer barrel and slide. In my this doesn't hurt it for concealment purposes to any material degree.

I like it, carry it 90% of the time in a CompTac Infidel and shoot it about the same as the 19.4. The Hackathorn's were replaced with I-Dot Pro's that seem to be an improvement to me, there is a little more light on either side of the post. I am not sure why the 48 gets the edge for IWB, but most seemed to prefer the 48 over the 43X. Grock's are addictive, a 42 is on the way and a 17 is next, but none of this has any relevance to your question.

The 19.4 is noticeably softer shooting than the 43X, same ammo, alternating between the two. Surely this is just the narrower grip of the 43X transfering the load to the hand. The Talon sandpaper grips work well for me. I also added the Kineti-Tech flat shoe, not sure if it helps my shooting but it feels better than the grooved trigger. And last, it has the Ghost connector since it was pegging my brothers trigger gauge at 9+.

Picture is out of date.

It's not just the grip. A heavier slide & barrel soak up recoil better than a light slide & barrel, so the 19 is easier to shoot, while the 43 cycles faster and is snappier. This is noticeable when comparing the 19 to the larger guns as well, or better yet, comparing a 17 to a 34 and 17L since they all use the same frame with different top ends. In all of these, the longer/heavier slide softens hot loads better, but also requires a more powerful minimum load to cycle. For example my 34 won't cycle on the mild target loads for my 19, but the 43 will cycle with a full grain less powder than those same loads.

Wife’s new edc 43x landed tonight...She likes the fit and feel.

We’ll hit the range soon for her to have some playtime with it.

Thanks for the information provided...😎
