New Sako 85 not behaving.. Also new scope.. Not grouping as it should. 1 3/4" to 3" at 100 yards. Serval different loads and bullet weights, reloads and factory. What to do? Don't have another 30mm scope to try, don't have any 1" Sako rings. Don't have 30mm rings for the other rifles.. Buy another scope? buy different rings? Send both scope and rifle back in and have them checked? Hate it when this happens. Sako 1" warranty for 5 factory rounds, Scope has lifetime guaranty.

Do what I've done. Buy a SWFA fixed power SS for such testing. Mine is a 20x, but I think 12x or 16x might be a better choice. You could have it in just a couple of days. Based on what I read around here, you won't have to wonder whether you've got the wandering zero issue using the SS. I'm using mine to see how much accuracy I may be giving up with my current scope selections, and buying the rings as I need them.

Probably your least expensive option is to get 30mm rings that fit one of your known rifles. What a PIA.

Yea, buying rings either for one of the other rifles or for the Sako would be the least expensive. That way I can pin it down, scope or rifle.

Been thinking about that idea ever since I got my 6x. That's plenty of Xs for such diagnostic work. Mine's on my new 10/22 right now, but I think one of the promised 2.5-10 SWFA RF models at half the weight will be a better fit for the long haul.

Nice to have at least one reliable baseline component when you're trouble-shooting something.

I've got a Zeiss and a Kahles that are proven, just don't have the rings. No other Sako's at the moment, so will order some 30mm rings for JP Sauer (Remington 700 style) Then see what happens.

Along the lines of a scope that just about has to be right, here is a crazy idea:
Go find one of those old B&L scopes that have no internal adjustments.
No, you cannot zero the rifle without adjustable mounts, but you can still shoot groups to assess a rifle's accuracy.
You will also learn something about how well your mounts are aligned with where your rifle shoots, and this is also a worthwhile thing to know. This is because mounts that require a lot of a scope's internal adjustment can often lead to trouble.

Well turns out a 22LR target rifle in the safe had a 30mm scope. 8X32 with a fine cross hair and target dot. Not a hunting scope but. At any rate the Sako will shoot. Several 5 shot strings 3/4" to 1". Put the suspect scope on the 22LR and it also behaved, but a 10 1/2# 22 does not induce much recoil.. Same rings etc. Going to try the scope one more time on the Sako then back for warranty if it starts spraying again.
