two good friends of mine drew unit 61 elk tags. First rifle I believe
He would love to buy 1-2 more land owner tags in the unit or surrounding area that has good elk hunting for his sons( money not a big issue for him).
He said outfitter is looking for some but asked if there was another way to track them down. Told him I would ask the fire and see if anyone had any knowledge on this.
Any help appreciated. Thanks guys

I'd call the CP&W office in Montrose and ask for a district wildlife manager that's familiar with Unit 61, they'll probably know of some.

Since the OP mentioned "surrounding area", maybe Unit 62 or 70 are better choices (both over the counter tags).
It depends on how rich the men are and what quality of hunt their sons are looking for.

Be careful to go directly though the landowner or through their registered outfitter or “land use manager”. The brokering law is written in a way that is scary, especially if you’re trying to by more than one for you and a buddy
I wouldn’t even consider a voucher unless payment was made directly to a landowner by each of you individually and the voucher was either mailed directly to you all separately from the LO or you pick them up in person when together.

Ok. Thanks for the advice. My friend has an outfitter he is going through that said he would see if he could find landowner tags for unit 61. I believe he said there was only a handful in that unit though which may make it very difficult. Hoped some fire members would know someone or how to find them. I greatly appreciate your help guys.
I don’t believe they would be interested in 62 cause it’s a low percentage unit. I believe he is hoping to be able to hunt with his two sons, but may not be possible. They will tag along for the experience anyways I’m sure. The one done has 18 points so in a couple years he will try for a 61 tag on his own I’m sure
