Metal buttplate instead of plastic, does not say 99E on receiver, and it has the same filled grip cap hole that the two David Royal has.

No one would be able to convince me those filled holes didn't come out of the Savage factory. What the story is would be real interesting to know.

Interesting forearm. The serial # is quite a bit lower than my two.

Works for me. I can easily see Savage doing something like this. After all, they didn't make decisions for the simple accommodation of future historians. Sometimes when things don't fit your analytical structure its a sign you may not have it as right as you thought you did. Maybe its time to recognize a class of 99 that's outside of the simple Es,Gs and EGs we've all become accustomed too and create a category that had no purpose for Savage beyond using up parts from the bins of discontinued models. Has anyone ever came across "mix-masters" from other periods of production?

The 99Cs with the octagon barrels from the 75th Anniversary are a good example. I have a later 99A .308 that the barrel is marked 99E.

My 1999 vintage 99C in 300 Savage. 99C's were never cataloged in 300. probably a leftover 100th Anniversary or RMEF barrel.

I have a note in my data that your rifle was part of a batch of about 50 (?) made for Jerry's using leftover brls.

What, Ben and Jerry’s was giving out 99s with ice cream? Damn, I knew that diet was a lousy idea!

Sounds like my one of 50 99C might be collectable. I always wanted something collectable.
