Of all the firearms brands out there, Ruger is one that has stayed on top of things in recent years. They certainly aren't sitting still.

I picked up a Hawkeye M77 Predator this week and popped it out of the stock a few minutes ago to look at the inletting. The stock felt awfully light for a laminate.

That's only 2.5oz more than a 700 SA Classic walnut stock I just weighed, and 1-2oz more than the last couple of standard-fill McMillan Ruger M77 stocks I've had. Hands down the lightest laminate I've seen in a long time, with most being around 3lbs. It takes some work to get laminate down to the weight of a walnut sporter handle, and I see some extra wood removed from the bottom of the barrel channel. Perhaps they worked on the butt area also.

It's not a really big deal, but as a fan of laminate stocks, I'm glad to see Ruger thinking ahead.

I love the looks of laminates but not the weight. Three of my Rugers came in laminate stocks, two wear synthetic now.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

They’d have to design a trigger and then build a rifle around it. 😉

i do wish Ruger would do some older cartridges again like the 257 Roberts , maybe 220 Swift, and maybe some others too with the laminate stocks.

Thats one of the good things about Ruger in they usually chamber some “older” stuff every now and then.

Problem with remington is you either get the action they use for the 221 fireball or the one long enough for 375 H&H

😁

I had to seat some 300H&H loads deeper to fit a 700 BDL last night.

I think that's the first time I've ever ran out of magazine room in a 700 LA. smile
