Have been looking for a day pack with a load shelf to replace a MR Bighorn.

I’m trying the Exo 2000 and MR Sawthooth 45 now but not sure I like the fit of either one.

The Approach seems like it might be a bit small on some hunts but the Solo seems a bit bigger than I need.

What are your thoughts on the Xcurve frame for those that have used it? I’m a smaller guy at 5’-8” 160.

Thoughts on other packs?

Thanks.

I had the Serac that I used for day hunts, basically the same bag sans the spotting scope pocket; it worked really well (mine was with a Krux frame). I kept a load cell folded up in between the frame and bag.

I've kept the Krux frame, but with a large bag for backpacking hunts; I replaced my day hunt setup with a MR Popup- much more like a day pack with the frame tucked down and lets me get through thick timber and blowdown a lot easier. It doesn't carry heavy loads as well as the Krux, but if I keep in the 60-70-ish lb range it's fine.

If you're looking for a one frame setup the Approach w/ any their frames should work nicely. If in doubt on what frame, I wouldn't hesitate to call them. I know they will let you exchange frames if need be (if you keep everything clean).

Thanks, I,m going to give them a call tomorrow.

After researching a bit more, I found I can also put the Avail on any of the frames. That might be the best of both worlds?

Stone Glacier has a hell of a reputation, and for good reason. Never tried one though as I am a Kifaru slut, for an equally good reason.

If for whatever reason you don't go the Approach route, check out the Kifaru Ultralight Frame with any of a number of packs to go along with it. The .22 Mag, Woodsman, and some of their other day packs are great, and the perfect size for the blow up doll to go along, for the middle of the day when critters are bedded down. Rosie's a lifesaver, when the hunting's slow, I tell ya.

They've even got quick access pockets for things like rubber dicks, for when the mood strikes. Man is there anything they haven't thought of? Hunting in style...

The 22 Mag is next on the list. Hoping whichever SG I decide to try works.

Almost done with the cactus proof prototype.

No free rides.

Which frame do you use?

The lumbar pads look pretty big and that’s the thing that didn’t work for me on the Exo.

Hunter's duplex frame. I don't know if they discontinued it or not, as their site is only showing the ultralight and the tactical frames right now.

The lumbar pad is pretty big, but I like being supported from the rear by big, black things.
