I mentioned this in the single shot section, but I wanted to repeat it here for any Canadians or interested Americans. The picture is a 17 Hornet, but the Wylde looks the same.

http://nine35.ca/index.html Ron in Ontario. He imports Contender and Encore barrels, and other things. Tell him I sent you.

https://matchgrademachine.com - Match Grade Machine in Hurricane, Utah This is one of the sources that Ron orders from.

[Linked Image]

I ordered a 1 in 8 SS, bull barreled, 24 inch barrel for my Contender from Ron. It looks like the picture. The barrels are made by Match Grade Machine. I own four, and every one works just fine. One of the four is a 225 Win, Savage Pre-fit, screwed onto a Savage Model 10. About 8 yto 10 weeks before it's in your hands.

And it will be here this week.

I assume that few, if any, Canadians shoot Contenders or Encores.

Got one, in 5.56, or I’d probably be looking at that.

What are his prices like? I generally try to pick them up used.

This barrel, all in, cost $670 CDN.

Ron does have some used barrels available, but I do not know which chamberings. You can snoop around on his site and email him for the latest price. It has been flucuating because of the US dollar. Right now, the exchange is about 1.30.

Good to hear. I bought a pile of IVI 5.56 brass for this rifle and my 6x45s. Looking forward to shooting this latest edition to my Contender family.

I got home this afternoon and put everything together. I'll play with it on Wednesday. I have about 50 reloads from various past projects. I'll bring some garlic powder and thyme to season the barrel. laugh

The forend is made by Bullberry and uses the hanger system. This will be a range rifle, so I put a 10x40 Bushnell on it.

I haven't got to it yet. I have been busy with other things, so it has to wait for a few weeks.

In addition to the publication of 30-303 book, both my wife and I were in car accidents. Her vehicle and mine were written off. No injuries to either of us. Neither was our fault, but as a result, my beloved F150 has gone to pickup heaven. It was struck by an Audi. The driver blew through a stop sign on the county road.

That left us with only one vehicle, and few opportunities for me to get to the range or out hunting for the past month.

It does suck, but I now have a runabout - a Ford Escape - for light duty work here.

The 30-303 is simply a 303 British, but with a 308 barrel. There are no other changes to the rifle. The big gain, in my view, is that 308 diameter bullets can be used. They are cheaper and easier to find than .311/.312. The magazine doesn't need alteration and a new barrel means better groups.

I talk about my original No 4 and the changes made to convert it to a 30-303. I included parts sources for the rifle, converting your 303 British dies to 30-303 (it's cheap and easy to do). The use of a 303 British body die and collet die, as well as a conventional Redding resizing die. I did bullet crimping tests, selecting a hunting bullet, and load data for 10 bullets. Eight hunting bullets, one target bullet and one cast load.

Since I started my web page in 1997, several questions are asked almost every week. Where can I get mags? Scope mounts? Replacement stocks? Etc. I put them in the book as well.

Here is a link to the table of contents.

OH sorry to hear that!!! I hadn't seen you posting at all and was hoping you were in the woods hunting and fishing! Sucks to lose a beloved vehicle!

Thanks. My plans were interrupted, but I persevered. smile

My neighbour, who I call my Zen buddy, said that if I had left the farm 30 seconds earlier or later, nothing would have happened. I told him, "Que sera, sera." Life is too short to sweat the details."

My plans for the next couple of weeks include replacing my wife's vehicle, trying some 223 loads and starting another project. I don't do deadlines or worry too much about work output. smile Everything happens when it happens. Que sera, sera.

The streak continues! Glad you guys weren't banged up; that would really complicate stuff.

Interesting project, that .30-.303. Probably makes more sense up there than here. I imagine .311-ish bullets are more available easily here. Always had a soft spot for the Number 4 since I Bought one at Joe the Motorists Friend way back when for $14.95. Great rifles.

Thanks. I'm glad we weren't hurt either. smile

WRT the 30-303, there are more .308 bullet weights and shapes from which to choose, and I think 308 bullets are easier to find anywhere on the planet these days.

Ok. I have range plans for Wed. I have some 69 gr. Sierra MKs and will try 5 or 6 powders.

I loaded up some IVI brass after nudging the shoulders back. The Wylde chamber is tighter than my old 223 Rem chambers. I used my Stony Point OAL gauge, and the MK, touching the lands, is approx. 2.305 inches. I'm going to load them to 2.29 in. and see which of the powders shows the most promise. After that, I will fine tune them.

For now, this rifle will be my range plinker to shoot in between strings of my next project.

OH glad to see your back on track so soon after the accidents! Looking forward to your report. I see you live not to far from Barrie! What a nice area! Back in the 90's I spent 2 summers in Mississauga installing some robotic door lines that built the Chrysler LH doors for the Canadian Chrysler plants. One Sunday a local contractor asked me if I'd like to get out of there (we were working 80-90 hours a week and really needed a break) and spend the afternoon fishing! HA I'll take fishing in Canada any time. Anyway we drove up to Barrie and rented a boat! Great afternoon and the panfish from Simcoe were awesome!

Hi. Thanks!

I'm glad that you could escape Toronto. Most of the people here call Toronto either "the city" or "Moronto". 120 km is too close for me. smile The fishing is good in Lake Simcoe. Like hunting, a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work!

By Moronto I presume you refer to John Tory, otherwise known as the Beggar in Chief or the Beggar in a Good Suit.

No, it's the city. It's one of a number of descriptive words that describe the city that people love to hate. Tory is merely a transient there.

Hogtown, TO, The Big Smoke, Moronto.
