I’d go .222 but use a Barnes TTSX bullet. Should pencil right on through.

Now you're just being silly. You can't get a permit to hunt dinosaurs. They don't have an open season for them. Leave them alone, so they can increase in numbers.

Since they're protected just a cerebral exercise but everyone knows caliber doesn't matter it's bullet construction and shot placement. But when the season opens somebody will kill one with a .223, and well there you go, perfectly adequate.

You can’t hunt dinosaur ethically without using a 6.5 Creedmoor.

Yes! Use the M855A1 ammo, it'll put their dicks right in the dirt.

I prefer the 204 Ruger. The 223 over penatrates!

A .223 would be more than 'enough gun' for most dinosaurs. The small ones vastly outnumbered the large ones.

I’ve killed several with mine. Here are two right before I blasted them.

In my state you have to use a centerfire for big game, so I use the .22 Hornet for everything up to Brontosaurs. Once they get over 15 tons, I step up to the K-Hornet.

Top of the morning to you sir, I hope the last week of June treated you acceptably and this finds you well.

Your query reminded me of the 2 times our family visited the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, AB - a really decent place if anyone is interested in that sort of thing by the way.

http://www.tyrrellmuseum.com/

Anyway since our girls grew up in the local mountains hunting with their old man, the topic of shot placement was always near the top of many conversations. Looking back on it now, I'm almost certain we caused untold trauma for gentler folks who overheard us.

We were surprised at the bone structure of most of the dino species, as opposed to the mastodons they had in some museums. We all thought the wooly elephant cousins would be much more of a chore to drop than the big lizards, but then again being reptiles they might have a sufficiently slow nervous system or whatever it is that it might take a wee bit of convincing for them to know they were really and truly dead.

Anyway sir, I'd likely suggest a minimum 6.5 or even 7.62 FMJ from what I can recall and I'd either try to hit that little tennis ball sized brain or snap the spine using them.

All the best to you as you head into the Fourth of July - assuming you're not from north of the medicine line too.

Dwayne
