What changes were done to the Montana?

I ask because I am seeing pre-2016 models (gray stock and no -threaded barrels)

Biggest thing is, I wanna know that the stock is the same high quality.

Have been looking for a deal on an Adirondack and missing out when they pop up cheaper than "retail". I can save a few hundred bucks on a Montana. If I want the barrel shorter, that's easy. As far as I can tell the Montana stocks are the same?? The Adirondack has a shorter barrel and fluted bolt...I could always spend the few hundred I saved to have stuff like that done if I wanted later....

Biggest concern is the stock. I actually prefer the Montana stock texture. The costed stocks have a weird rubbery feel and I hunt a lot of snow/rain .not sure if it's get slippery...

The stocks for the Montanas are the same, built in Costa Rica for Kimber. The earlier ones had a smoother gray colored paint, later replaced by a more sandpapery textured gray colored paint, and currently made with the greenish colored sandpapery textured paint. I’ve had eight Montanas, including a first year, two position safety, 7mm-08, and the stocks have all been the same, save paint texture and color. The camo stocks (like on the Adirondack) are also the same stock, only with the rubberized camo finish on them (the Hunter based camo stocks are plastic).

Not exactly sure what year they went from the smooth gray paint to the sandpapery gray paint, but it was definitely prior to 2016. Maybe someone else can nail down the year for you. If you are interested in buying a particular montana, say with the sandpapery finish, I would ask the seller about it before you buy it.

Thanks for all the info! I appreciate it.

I think that's the way I may go....saves a good bit of money initially...and I can customize as I see fit.
