Anyone driving one of the new ones, with the 5.7 Hemi? My wife likes them and is bugging me to go look at one.

My 2015 Ram has the 5.7 Hemi. 395 HP/410 lbs torque from the factory. The Durango 5.7s IIRC come with 363 HP and lesser torque. Why that is, I do not know.
Piss poor gas mileage. The expedition is faster and better gas mileage with the 3.5 twin turbos.

My brother is a N.C. State Highway Patrolman, and he actually claims that the worst wreck that he has ever seen anyone come out of unscathed was Dodge Durango. Glass everywhere, outside of the vehicle was trashed, yet the cab held up extremely well.

Now on to the 5.7 Hemi Durango...............This link is from Northgate Chrysler Dodge Jeep.net near Cincinnati Ohio that came up after I typed in 0 to 60 times Durango ......2019 Durango RT; 5.7L Hemi; 360 HP/391 lbs torque; No curb weight listed, but it is lighter than the Expedition by a good 900-1.000 lbs imo and no listing whether it is a 2x or 4x........0 to 60 = 6.2 seconds.........Quarter mile = 14.7 seconds (no mph shown, but obviously a 14.7 sec time will beat the 88.2 mph by the Expedition).. .....Gas mileage 14 city, 22 highway (no combined mpg listing)....
The Expedition is quite a good performer @ 6,000 lbs. But faster than a 5.7 Hemi Durango RT??? I don't teeeenks so.....
Have rented Durango's with the V6 for several weeks at a time, great running vehicles. Lots of power and got 25 mpg running 75+ mph on the freeway. The truck ran too good ended up getting a ticket just north of Bakersfield on the I99 for doing 85
I have rented other brands SUV's but like the Durango best for size, handling, lots of power with the V6 yet great gas mileage. .
They might be great as a low mileage rental but how about when it's 10 years old with 150k on it? Are they a money pit or do they hold up well? I don't trade cars every couple of years. I want to run them until I'm in the ground.

Not new. Momma's car is an '05 with the 5.7. We put a water pump, fan, and radiator in it when we got it at 120K to keep the temp gauge in the normal range. And I just had to replace some broken studs on the left head, and replace the exhaust manifold gasket at 200K.
The tranny has always felt "mushy" to me. The tach drops quite slowly as it upshifts. I would prefer more solid shifts and less slippage in the tranny, But it has not gotten worse in the four years we have owned it.
Momma gets about 14 mpg driving back and forth 7 miles and four stop signs to town. But she pulses her foot on the gas peddle and makes the engine surge about once per second. An unconscious habit she can not seem to cure.
I get 16 to 17 mpg when I drive it around the valley including 25 mile runs on the freeway with the cruise set on 85. This with 10% ethanol 87 octane.
When I filled it with nonethanol premium and headed across central Oregon with the cruise set at 70 and the rig loaded to the nuts with passengers and gear, the trip computer showed 21 mpg from Ontario to Bend.
The 5.7 Dodge engine is probably the most powerful engine I have ever driven, including mid '70s era big blocks from Dodge, Ford, and GM. I know it will certainly outpull the 5.7 Vortech in my 96 GMC K2500.

There's a cure but you won't like the price. Many new cars, like the Toyotas, have a stop and start system. At stop signs, the engine shuts off to save gas. When you take your foot off the brake, it restarts. It works a lot better than it sounds.

I had a 2000 Durango I bought used and drove for 13 years. I called it the Durable-dango because it required so little maintenance. It got 16-18 mpg on the highway with the magnum V-8, not the hemi. Not the best, but okay. That was a first-generation one, still the best looking and best size, IMO.

.......................................Back in 05 IIRC, Durangos were using the now very antiquated 5 spd trans?. The 8 spd HP70 torqueflite trans that now sit behind the 5.7 Hemis is a completely different ballgame alltogether. Crisp and concise shifting...............Dodge, Ram, Chrysler have made outstanding improvements over the past few years, especially post 2011-2012.
On my 2015 Ram Hemi w/69K miles, my dealer just replaced 3 defective exhaust manifold bolts on the right side. Exhaust ticking during cold starts but would go away after a minute or two. Apparently, somewhat of a part time problem with 5.7 Ram Hemi..........No cost to me with a free rental included under warranty....
Converted over to Amsoil Signature Series 100% synthetic oil in the engine at 38K miles as well as the trans and rear diff at 55K miles.....Don't expect to have any internal engine, trans or rear diff problems for hundreds of thousands of miles.
5.7's eat cams. The roller bearings in the lifters fail and chew up camshafts. Google it. Its pretty common. Hell MSP is retiring their chargers about 20k miles sooner than their Crown Vics.

I had a Dakota which had same running gear, put 350,000 miles on it over 14 years surprisingly little maintenance needed and I ran it hard.
