Been shooting the 196gr sp ppu
Its accurate but only cranking out 2100fps max
Even though ppu says it runs 2400 +
Many web reviews and people say their fps ain't what they advertise either

The ppu rounds are very accurate in my rifle also.

Have always looked at these sellier & bellot 196gr spce on the web
And all the reviews and lots of people say they run 2500+.
Says 2592fps on the box w/24" barrel.
Mine is 22 7/8ths after I recrowned it a couple yrs ago.
Just never wanted to pay shipping cost from web sites.

Ran across 3 boxes today for 60 bucks
Unusual design.
Definately more bearing surface.
Reveiws say they are very accurate and hard hiting

Chambered 5 thru the gun.
Cycled fine.
Didnt mar up the soft points on them either which is cool.
The PPU,s get their soft points marred up

Need ta get out to the range and see how they do.
Ppu round on left
Sellier and bellot round on right

Got em backwards to the perspective of the boxes.

Started with prvi also.
Reloaded with 175gr prvi.
Decent slug. Running at 2600fps.

More velocity and energy is a good thing.
As long as it is a accurate round its cool.
If it woefully lacks.
Then ppu will be fine.
I ain't fugging with adjustments off the ppu .
This S&B stuff needs to show 3 or 4 good groups off the ppu zero 1st before I adjust for it.

The S&B will slap the PPU around and take it's lunch money. ALMOST keeps up with my 200gr handloads and they are plenty stout.

That is an old German commercial design bullet. Certainly not a new design but a very good one.

My old range report using 1960's surplus pull down IMR4895 that dimensions of the grains matches 4895, but ballistically matched H322.

1-31-04
I went to the range today and shot:
1) #1 1903 Turkish Mauser [ marked 1936 on receiver ] [I inspected the
bores of 40 and bought 20 and this is the best ] .
This rifle has been modified:
a) drilled and tapped and installed Wheeler one piece Weaver scope mount
b) Stock and handguard from 1938 Turkish Mauser
c) rear hump ground off trigger
d) trigger spring replaced with a wimpy higher index spring.
e) a piece of screw in the trigger spring cup that controls over travel
f) rear pillar pounded out and replaced with a larger brass pillar glued
with epoxy
g) receiver glass bedded with Devcon Steel Putty from end to end, and 6"
of barrel too
h) trigger guard / magazine assembly glass bedded
i) stock relieved for barrel clearance
j) bayonet mount relieved for barrel clearance
k) bolt bent
l) stock relived for bolt
m) three layers of masking tape on large ring to shim scope mount to be
parallel with bolt.

I put on my test scope: 6.5x20x40 boosted to 13x40x40 with high Grand
Slam rings and bore sighted it to within 1.5" at 50 m.
Win 8x57 brass, WLR primers, seated with RCBS, 47 gr. IMR4895 bulk all
loads were seated so long that unfired extraction resulted in spilled
powder:
n) 200 gr. Sierra Match King, new brass, 3.625" with Sinclair 30 cal
nut, 1" 5 shot group at 100m [first 4 shots were 1/2" and I made the
whole range stay hot to wait for my 5 th. shot], flattened primers
2618, 2633, 2649, 2623, 2650, 2626, 2638 fps

I have had this rifle for 3 years [Paid Big5 $50 ] , and didn't know
what I had until today

I know for a fact that S & B bullet in that cartridge is Hell on hogs!!

People say that the bullet selection isn't there for the 8x57...they have obviously never used a 200gr Nosler Partition or Speer Hot Cor on game. Either one under a stout charge of CFE223 is pretty damn impressive.

It's an easy round to load for, and if you can find 8x57is(js) ammunition, no slouch with factory loads.

I have a box of the S&B's for the 7x57,with the same style of bullet.

Was told that they hit hard.

Waiting for the right time to use them.

I've got several boxes of the S&B style bullets for my 7x57R. With a 6X scope and thick reticle lines it shoots minute of deer to 278 yds

44 gr IMR 4895 & a 150 Hornady SP. Not in any of the above's league for velocity or power but an easy shooter and good milsurp plinker. Manual says 2476 fps out of a K98.

Update on this thread and the S&B ammo.
[Linked Image]

Made this post about 45 mins ago on another thread on here:

Sunday I went out and shot a box of Sellier &Bellot 196gr SPCE
2592 fps per box.
Bench and bags 100 yds 3 power sunday and monday morning.
Big difference from the PPU stuff.
Got it home copper cleaned the barrel sunday afternoon.
Went out next morning wanting to see where the cold clean bore shot went and then a boresnaked x3 shot went.
Someone left a shoot and see target down the 100 yd line.
Slight 5 to 7 mph R to L wind intermittent.
1st shot cold clean bore right at the 9.
Boresnake x 3 2nd shot little more left and little higher
Brought the target home stuck it on a peice of cardboard , cause I like to look at it.
Use it early next fall to shoot again to confirm zero.

One of the best investments I've ever made was buying an 8MM-06 chamber reamer. A moderately warm handload in that case spanks any 8X57 I've ever seen, and brass is available by the truckload. 338-06 A-square loading data also works for the 8MM-06.

At safe CIP level loads, the 8x57 gives up VERY little to the 8mm-06.

I agree. American factory 8x57 ammo is woefully under loaded and Winchester use 0.321 diameter projectiles that doesn't help any
