That's a good bullet for the 35 Rem. And the Whelen too of course.

Man, I wish we could use the 35 Rem and cartridges of similar ballistics for deer hunting in Iowa. This load you mentioned is really no different from a typical muzzleloader load. And I’m fond of the the 35 Rem in a vintage M 336.

I wish you could use it too George, last season I watched a heavy antlered 8pt, later weighed 198lbs dressed, chasing a doe around on a white oak hillside, the doe lay down, so did the buck, he wasn't going to leave her, I found his shoulders at 154 yards, BOOM went the Marlin, up came his hams, he pushed himself like a football lineman about 5 yards and stopped, I gave him another 220gr Speer through both hams, it was over, the first bullet wrecked his shoulders and buried itself in the white oak he was laying by.

It was a heck of a fun hunt.

I use IMR 4064 in my .35 Whelen and was satisfied with the acuracy that is till I tired IMR 3031 last fall, with Hornady 200gr. RN 3 shot cloverleaf groups at 100 yds. are frequent.

COOL .
An old Marlin in great shape sold [immediately] in the classifieds a weekNhalf ago , always considered the 35 a Classic hunting cartridge . Just saying .

Bogtrotter , you're right about the 444mar. , got an old H&R love that rifle .

Bogtrotter, yes the 444, 45/70 and a whole hatful of pistol/revolver cartridges within certain parameters of caliber and case length are legal, the big catch being no bottle-neck cartridges like the 35 Rem even though guys have been hot-rodding muzzleloaders (legal) to that kind of power and even beyond in past years.
