I'm trying to locate a 2 or 3 inch wide forend for a Contender rifle. I googled, but nothing came back. Is anyone aware of a stock maker that offers this sort of thing in walnut?

Thanks. I didn't know they did wood.

I've fired off an email to them.

Steve, I do a fair bit of wood work and it is my thought that in the case of a Contender one could not find an easier project.

You're right, Dan. Time is always at a premium in the good weather. That sounds like a -30, blizzard going on outside, safe with my stove in the workshop kind of project. smile

That's intriguing. I have an MGM 24" rifle barrel - not sure of the screw spacing - that I wish to fire off the bench as well as take it hunting. Is your forend made for a Bullberry barrel or another maker? Factory, MGM.

Its made for a bullberry barrel by bullberry. It uses bullberries hanger bar system. I will have to check the spacinf but I have used it on both pistol length bbls and rifle length bbls.

I believe Tonys Contender Fore end and grips makes them in walnut, maple, and laminated wood.
Great guy to do business with.

They don't ship to Canada, unfortunately.

Steve- here are a few pics of hand-made forends an old friend of mine made probably 20 years ago. He lived in Ohio and loved to sit out in hayfields waiting for chucks to appear. One of his favorites was a Contender and with a portable bench, and sandbags, he was effective. For that use, he wanted a fuller forestock-not finding what he wanted, he made some. The pics show (1)a roughed out stock (2)semi-finished and (3) a finished copy I used for a 14". I never used it on a carbine barrel but I believe the two-hole spacing is the same for the carbine forend I have. I have since sold my pistol barrels but I may get another.

Your friend did a great job! That is precisely what I am looking for. I may end up having to do it myself, but that cannot happen until the winter.

Got an answer back about Bullberry's forends.

"Custom wood starts at $155 for 2" wide in walnut or some of our laminates. The max width on laminates is 2.5" We do not build them to fit the factory screw pattern. Our hanger allows the barrel to free float in the forend and attaches with only one screw."

The hanger would be the long one for the Super 16

I have asked them to send me an invoice for the wide forend and hanger. It's gonna be around $165 + shipping. Despite its small size, some businesses charge big bux to ship. I will be curious to see what it costs to mail.

It looks like I am going to have to find another forend maker. Bullberry doesn't have an export permit, so they cannot send the forend directly to me. Apparently, it is okay to send one as a gift, but not a business sale. ?!? I'm not generally political, but the Middle East continues to weave its insidious web of nonsense around the world. It's a sad state of affairs when I cannot buy a piece of wood from the US. frown

I will find an alternative. I have fired off an email to Boyds. They have, or had, a custom shop. Hopefully, they can help. Tony's Forends and Grips as well.

Steve,
Have you tried www.tonysforendsandgrips.net ?

He made mine & it is great. The forend is at least 3” across the bottom. He will make it any way you want it.

I did. He made a forend for me and when I paid for it, he said that he couldn't send it to Canada. He suggested that I should find someone to send it to me as a gift.
