Is anyone shooting one yet?

I picked up a Ruger American and so far its shooting very well. Im waiting on dies so only shooting factory. Nice price on the fmj as a way to get brass.

I'm wondering what is the bullet diameter of the 350 Legion ? .356 or .358 ?

The only loads currently out are fmj target loads with a bullet diameter of .355. Saami specs say .355 and that is what some barrel makers are using for bore size.
Winchester lists the bullets as .357. Maybe hunting loads will be.

I have loaded two boxes on existing dies by just neck sizing and have gotten good accuracy with a 158 xtp. I also loaded two different lead bullets sized .358. Both shot ok at 2” @ 50yards. But will need time to develop and find accurate loads. The tps where just luck and shot under 1” @ 50, same as 147 fmj.

Also 180 sp are now available at major suppliers.

Loaded up a box yesterday using 180xtp’s and 1680 powder. In a ladder.

Cannot shoot today as my range is monopolized with a small Bore match this weekend.

Been looking at the American for a cheap Ohio gun season rifle. Will be used once a year. Was thinking 450 bushmaster.

Why go 350? Ballistic of the bushmaster seem better from the true results I have see online

There’s no problem at all with the 450 BM — it’s considerably more powerful — but I went with the 350 L in the Ruger American Ranch because I consider it a “357 Magnum Long” and for my hunting in Iowa at short ranges in timber it should do fine. I can do without some of the recoil of the BM and that “nozzle” on the end of that barrel, though removable is an eyesore to me.

Factory ammo for the 350 is inexpensive and I don’t intend to reload for it. We’ll see how it goes. I have the scoped rifle and ammo ready to go but haven’t had a chance to hit the range with it yet.

The Win. Factory hunting load has been verified as .355". Starline brass lists this as a .355" bullet size as well.

The SAAMI specs for the 350 LEGEND are readily available on the SAAMI website.

Bullet diameter is spec'd at .3570" -.0030".

Groove diameter is spec'd at .355" + .002".

Iowa says it is not a legal cartridge there because of the factory ammo having .355" bullets. Good going Winchester

If that judgement holds, it shows reason and a government agency are incompatible concepts. But, I will give them some time to consider the whole thing if true and not let .002” in caliber (for example in comparison to the legal 357 Magnum) throw them off.

The 350 L perfectly fits the spirit of the original regulations — “a short range” cartridge and a “straight-walled” with some additional stipulations.

This has nothing to do with reasonable government. Iowa set a lower bullet diameter limit and it is up to the hunter to make certain his cartridge fits the regulations. This is 100% on Winchester.

Well,..yeah, I’d like to talk to the group at Winchester who call the shots and tell them they might have missed the whole berm with this.

But, as to “nothing to do with reasonable government,” thanks for clearing that up for me too, especially with the pot pourri of various and sundry pistol cartridges (some of which could be deemed inadequate on a good day) Iowa specifically names legal in their reg’s. So, this .002” is something to really draw the line on.

Again, I probably wouldn’t give bonuses to Win’s board room members on this unless they just didn’t want Iowans to buy five or ten thousand, 350 L-chambered rifles. Needing a lot of 350 L ammo. In which case they might reached their goal by doing the very dumb thing.

But if Iowa cannot overlook this technicality, they will have matched Winchester in a whole other level “of dumb.”

And please inform me more on the hunter’s responsibilities.

Don't omit the DNR stormtrooper that thinks "expanding type" to mean "hollow point", which in a hollow point Foster Slug means non-expanding, to anyone with a clue.....

I'm obviously more of a hardass to regulation when it comes to Lee and Tiffany baiting the ever loving [bleep] out of "their" deer,(with documented DNR agents in their pockets), so if you get so much as a DNR guffaw, I'd enjoy being notified.

Ain't heard [bleep] from the DNR regarding AR handguns; another product of Iowa bowhunters delegating from their lobby. Seems they view the resource as a font for competition, since many are not in the management camp....

Spoke to the IA DNR this morning and they have not decided on the 350 yet — they are still discussing the matter. We shall see.

I’ll be happy to school you on a hunter’s responsibility son. If the law says bucks, you shoot bucks not does. If the law states the season starts November 1st, you don’t start hunting in July. If the law says you wear orange, you wear orange. If the law says a minimum .357” bullet, you don’t shoot a .243.

Words mean something, especially regarding laws. Since .357” bullets are standard, it makes perfect sense for a state agency to use that as a lower limit. How much leeway would you suggest, .356”, .355”, .350”? Do you consider it “unreasonable” if a LEO pulled you over for doing 67 mph in a 65 mph road?

Since it is a hunter’s responsibility to be aware of the laws, they should eschew the .350L since it is not technically legal. Why Winchester ignored this is.....irresponsible.

I guess having hunted since my preteens, including Africa and Ak, Canada, and almost all states west of the Mississippi, and elsewhere, and having been here since 2004, a “hunter’s responsibility” (and its technicalities) was something new to me until your enlightening, pompous little outburst.

This was sent to someone I know on another forum.

I have been buying the FMJ to get brass.

But I dont shoot them, I pull them. Harvest the powder ... Trim the cases and re re load them using 21.8g of powder and a re sized Hornady 140 FTX bullet.

This load is clocking 2350 from my 16” Ruger Bolt and shooting sub MOA. IM NOT TO SURE this bullet is gonna hold up on game bigger then coyotes. But darn things shoots GREAT!!
