I passed up a SxS 12 gauge for $299 too, so I'm up to $648!

Had a later issue .30/30-12 gauge with synthetic stock. Good shooter, and had the nice trait of putting slugs exactly to p.o.a. at 50 yards when the rifle was zeroed at 100. Killed a decent 8 with it in 1998, with the rifle barrel. All in all though, it was a big load to carry and the comb of the stock was square on top, not what you want when shooting heavy 12s. Solid, but kind of crude. Still like the concept, but the execution is not very "smooth". Even the Baikal I looked over once was much nicer.

I ended up taking a chance on a eBay butt stock.

Fitting was pretty straight forward and it came out perfect.

I saved a goodchunk of time and $ doing so,

Working up loads now

I had a 24V 30-30/20 ever so briefly. Stupidly sold it to buy something else... that I never bought.

The Springfield is long gone. My Series-P and Series-S.

I have had 24 fever for a while. So far I own 2 30-30/20ga models and a Stevens .22-.410 with the tenite stock. I missed a .357 mag/ 20ga a while back. Still looking for one at a price I can stomach.

They have just fascinated me because the centerfire ones cover so much. I can bag about anything in the SE US woods with one. The .22-.410 Is nice, but not what I need with the black bears and hogs around. Plus growing up using single shot shotguns makes me feel right at home with the controls.

Some people ask me why not buy a semi auto instead. I simply recite the lesson my Papaw taught me, "Kill it with the first shot and you don't need more bullets." He was a WWII veteran and police officer who still qualified every year into his 80's. When he told you something, you listened because it was important.

If I have a chance, at some point a .22 Mag or .22 Hornet would be nice to play with.
