I have a 20" smoothbore in excellent condition that I cant seem to get any local bites on. Deer shotguns arent popular here but id rather sell locally if I can. I thought $400 was a pretty fair price but I dont know what they go for other than seeing them on GB.

Smoothbore slug guns are not very desired these days, those with rifle barrels using sabot slugs are much preferred over small pores. It doesn't help that there are many Remington 870, Mosburg 500, Winchester 1200, and other shotguns similar to yours for much cheaper.
Your best bet to maximize the price is to either sell it online or re-branded as a "tactical" gun.

I would second chlinstructor's suggestion to post it on this site. I am always interested in quality Ithacas. .
IMHO you are pretty close on price if it is in excellent condition..
It is hard to tell with the limited info.
Some things that might help a person decide: Serial number, Barrel length, Scope or no scope, Aperture sights if added. 2 3/4" or 3" chamber, Extra barrels?

Put it on GB with a No Reserve Penny Start.
It will sell well there so long as you let the auction run.

I am in NY where the 37 s were made and probably more reside than any state. Absolutely great guns, but they don’t command a high price. If it’s a shooter with bluing wear, then maybe $250. $400 would be a pristine gun. If you have the longer deerslayer barrel vs the more common short one then maybe $30 more. If stock cut and sights missing then it’s $150.
