Building one near me. What are they all about? Appears to be the size of a big Dick's sporting goods store.

I'll weigh in. My experience is with the Scheel's in Des Moines and Lincoln. A cut above most such stores. Good variety and carry higher end products, knowledgeable staff. Can't recall where they are on pricing, but probably a bit on the high side because good things come at a cost. Not unreasonable.
As a hunter and shooter, you'll be fortunate to have one in your area.

"Hell no!"
"NAZI!!!"

If you remember back when Cabela's was worth a stop, that's what Scheel's still is. The first time I went to Scheel's (in Billings, MT) I was actually on my way to Cabela's, Haven't been to a Cabela's since.

Scheels has a lot of non-outdoor sports equipment, sports team memoribilia, bicycles, butt loads of women's clothing. So not exactly like Cabela's in the 90s. But still a great store.

good to know, do they sell guns? Yes. Prices are OK. They trade also, unlike the lawyer lovers at Sportsman's Warehouse. I saw a guy take 2 homemade guns into a Scheels to try and trade. The Manager was like, no, thanks for coming, please leave now. Fun to spectate. I also saw an employee unlocking the .22 ammo ask the customer what he was shooting with so many bullets. The customer: "Cats." Also fun to spectate.

Been doing business with them since the 80's. If I remember right, they started in Sabin, MN. I grew up in the Fargo area and they had 5-6 stores in the FM area. Now they are going the super stores model, but still have some of the smaller ones (usually the original stores from the 80's and 90's). Their firearm prices are fair, but when they want something gone, they have killer clearance prices. I just picked up a like new Steyr SBS with Nikon Prostaff scope for just under $450. They were asking a little over $600 originally (fair to slightly high) if you figure the scope value at $125. I purchased a new S&W 15-22 for around $325 last year which is what most places on line have them at sales prices for and I got to actually shoulder it before buying. Back in the late 90's I got a brand new Weatherby Orion for $500. It was cheap because 26" fixed choked shotguns didn't sell well in Grand Forks ND.
They have a good selection of hunting related items. Ammo is fair to high, but if you frequent the store can find good prices, especially on slow selling stock.

I really liked the Lincoln Scheels as it had a really good reloading area and competitive prices. Knowledgeable staff and once and awhile some steals. That said I will never darken their door in Lincoln again. They wanted a new parking garage and got the city to pass a 2% occupation tax to pay for it. With state and local taxes it bumped it up to a 10% tax on any purchase. Nothing in that store which is high retail anyways is worth 10% more.

I like the Scheels in Reno better than Cabelas in Boom Town.
