I am trying to order mounts for a Kimber Montana 84M.

The scope is probably going to be a VX3i 2.5-8x36. I have a few of them on other rifles. I'm comfortable with them. They suite my hunting needs. I can't find anything comparable... especially when it comes down to ounces... without nearly doubling the price for a Swaro...

Anyways, I can't decide if I need/want low or extra low Talley's. I know Talley's, that scope, and that rifle are fairly popular rigs here. Figured y'all would be the people that can set me straight.

I believe I will have clearance on the objective end. I'm worried about bolt clearance on the ocular end...

Thanx!

Lows. Because the 84M receiver is so small, the lows act like x-Lows on any other rifle. I wouldn’t want the scope any lower than the Lows allow it.

Yep, low’s are what you want, especially if you use Butler Creek lense covers.

I use Mediums on all My kimber rifles, 2 84M's, 2 84L's and 2 8400's....I know lows will clear the bolt but i like the little extra scope clearance the mediums allow and the scope is still plenty low for a good cheek weld 👍.......Hb

All things equal, lows look much better.

Thanx all! I appreciate the info!

I ordered a set of lows and a VX3i 2.5-8x36 for it. I found a comparable Swarovski...but can't justify twice the price right now. I own 2 other 2.5-8x36s and they seem to suite my needs very well. I could get lighter with a fixed power or a smaller objective. Neither of which I want to do to save a couple ounces at the most.

Lows on both of mine. An 84L with a Leupold 6x42 and an 84M with Leupold 2-7x33. Both fit and look great.

Went with the Talley lightweight lows and a VX3i 2.5-8x36.

Extra low would have definitely been too low IMO. Bolt clearance and the stock design. Lows seem like they will work. I may even bump up to mediums. I need some time behind the trigger to decide. The lows seem like I have to get my head down lower than I'm used to....but, new setup and I've carried 2 identical setup Remington 7600s in different chamberings for a good while so anything different is going to take some getting used to.

I appreciate all the input! I'd say I'm probably glad I didn't go extra low like I was going to. Between the stock shape and how it shoulders and the bolt clearance, it'd been difficult.

I have lows on mine with a Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x36. X-lows might not work.
