My buddy decided last minute to take his 13 yr old son on his first hunt. Looking for this fall and something other than whitetail. Cow elk, muley(management would be great) or anything else. They have never been out west so if u guys can recommend anyone that has room or a good hunt that’s not real high dollar let me know. PM will work if needed too. He is fine just letting the boy hunt if he has to.

Thanks guys

Roy

A three day Prong Horn hunt in WY would be cheap and easy.

I hunted At Corey Ficher's place non-guided a few years back. His outfit is called Crandall Creek Outfitters. His area was at that time two Prong Horn and he had nice watering holes that were very active with very respectable Prong Horn. I would not be worried to recommend him in the least. I never actually met him. He was out chasing Elk when I was there. But I have absolutely nothing to complain about.

Pronghorn is a great idea, but you're pretty much too late for this year. Only 4 areas with buck tags leftover for purchase. Leftover lists are getting smaller and smaller each year.

The 23 and 24 type 2 are private land only...you MAY get someone to let you hunt without paying if its for the kid.

Does the kid have a Hunter's Safety card yet? That could put a stop to the whole thing.

I fear you're too late for this fall, most good outfitters book up years in advance. Some states are draw only also.
I would recc. buying PP for Wyoming and coming out next year or later for an antelope hunt, some mule deer areas can be drawn with 1 PP also.
Otherwise, Colorado OTC tags or a landowner vouchers may have to be purchased.
Cow elk may be doable this year. Make sure to ask if they hunt wintering elk or resident elk.

Glad to hear that the kid has his credentials. Tons of other good advice on this thread. I'll just add that some guides have a waiting list. Then if someone backs out at the last minute, you can grab the slot.
