Any one used one on elk? Got a rifle that runs them just over 3200 and shoots them really good. Cant imagine that they wouldnt work, just wondering what the consensus is.

Go for it. A 7mm 140g will get the job done quite a ways out there. I us one in my 7mm RM at 3214fps and had one exit on a broadside at 400 yards. North Fork HP instead of Barnes TTSX but the TTSX are even harder to stop.

At 600 yards and 7000 feet, your TTSX load should maintain over 1500fpe and 2200fps.

FWIW, IMR 7828SSC gives me 3358fps with the 140g TTSX with my 7mm RM. I use TTSX and LRX in several of my rifles and will likely do so in the 7mm RM when I run out of North Fork.

It’s my go-to in my 284 Win. 2.5 MOA at 400 yds consistently. 3150 fps. ~ 120 yds here; fx’d spine at neck- shoulder area and exited. The only one of these that was stopped was by a 275 lb mule deer at 100 yds. and went from brisket to scrotum — ~ 4.5 feet.
I was surprised this one wasn’t stopped. No matter.

For elk, I've used the plain 130 TSX BT in a Cooper .270 and also the plain 150 TSX BT in a 7x61 Sharpe & Hart NULA. Bullets worked great and at ranges from 125 yards to about 375. I'm pretty sure the tipped versions of these bullets would work just as well.

I would think ~ 2900-3000 fps depending..My 284 has a 23” tube, a Wyatt box allowing a ~ 2.95” OAL, and really seems to like R17.

Shot my only elk (cow) with a 140 TTSX at 2860 with my 7-08. DRT.

That's about a 10" group. I don't think that's what you meant, right?

Shot my one & only Elk cow with a 7 Wby pushing a 140 TTSX @ 3400 fps. She trotted about 35 yards & tipped over cold stone dead. The bullet entered the chest & traversed the length of the body & exited the rear ham.

Yes, in a superbly accurate .280AI WBY MK V Ultralite (rechambered from factory .280 R.E.M.). The .284 140gr TTSX left that skinny 24" factory barrel at 3220 fps and grouped way sub min. out to 800 yes. That being said, I personally would limit it to 500 or so, as it is slowing down pretty quickly out past that (BC sucks). The on game performance on elk was more than adequate though.

I shot a bull a couple years back with a 140 TTSX out of an 18” barreled 7/08.... muzzle velocity was about 2600 gps, and shot was 60ish yards.

Bullet broke both scapulas and exited.... bull went 20-30 yards blowing chunks of lungs out his nose. I was pretty impressed....

I figured that was pretty good after my initial 15” groups.....😜

I've taken elk and watched several others taken w/140TSX from a 270Win as well as a couple 140TTSX/280AI. They've both worked quite well, indistinguishable from each-other IME. Can't imagine how a 140TTSX via 280Rem would be much different.

I wouldn't hesitate to use it on elk. I use it in my 7 RSAUM for muleys and it kills like lightning.

Alright, well I’m glad we got that straightened out.

I have found that 140 gr TTSX are very easy to load in 7mm rifles and would not hesitate to use them on elk. I did, however, just pick up a Semi-custom Rem 700 with Kampfeld upgrades that shoots 150 gr Nosler Partitions quite well. It will be a toss up for 2020 Wyoming elk season.

They're heck for sturdy and QUITE acceptably accurate at insane velocities in my STW. can't see an elk (or much else) surviving one, properly placed.

When the 140g Nosler ballistic tips first came out, I shot two bull elk with them in a browning a bolt 7 mag with a MV of 3200 fps, they flopped.

Tipped tripple shocks will work well, I am sure.
