I have a 2016 Tacoma. Great vehicle.
I hate the Traction Control, so much I am going to sell it!
I am old school and all my other trucks had or have mechanical rear lockers/limited slip.
When did Toyota move away from mechanical limited slip??
When the tailgate drops the BS stops.

I have a 2018 4Runner and I like the traction control in the snow and ice. I don't rock crawl, so my application is unmaintained dirt roads in the snow. I have chains, and last years was pretty bad, but I never mounted them. My factory tires and not rated highly for snow, so again I have nothing bad to say.

Yeah I was gonna say you can turn that crap off.
To answer your question, they went away from mechanical LS about 2009.

TRAC CONTROL IS NOT A FORM OF LIMITED SLIP. It's totally different and intended for different purposes. It won't give you added traction off road. It's for highway use.
TC uses the brakes to prevent a tire from slipping on slick stuff. LS shifts the power back and forth between tires to keep the power to the one with the most traction. TC works quite well for it's intended purpose but it won't help a bit off road.

True, but I bet what he’s getting at is that when he goes off road, in mud or loose gravel or something, his VSC is cutting power when he spins, and he’s blaming it on not having a mechanical LSD. That link WTM posted to Tacoma World lays it out quite nicely and if Reba, or anybody, took the time to learn how to use the Toyota 4wd system they’d probably be pleased. Having said that, I do wish they would offer a locker in the Tundra.

Toyota LC's Crawl Control (with Turn Assist function) has a switch.
Gun Shows are almost as comical as boat ramps in the Spring.

Crawl Control is nothing like Traction Control. Here's a video put out by Toyota of CC in use. I don't know anyone who has it so can't say whether it's that good or not. [video:youtube] https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=238&v=19BNRvuNLWE[/video]

I have a 2011 model with mud tires. At the first sign that I might be about to get stuck (in mud), I turn all the VSC /TRAC off. It severely limits wheelspin, which is needed to clean mud out of mud tires and keep moving. I was in a soft creek bottom the other day and progress was halted with the "beep beep beep" of the electro-nanny software and the brakes being put on by the computer. I turned the buttons off, rocked the truck back and forth a few times, and clawed my way out, flinging mud the whole way. I suppose the nanny functions are good on wet roads, but can be defeated for when you really need some wheelspin to keep digging.
Now with even more aplomb
