I have a Springfield Armory M1A Scout, and am looking for an optic to mount on the forward rail. I have been leaning toward the Burris Scout 2-7x, but I have also been looking at the various red dot and reflex sights out there. The Vortex red dot also looks interesting. I want something that's got a good field of view, quick on target, and provides a fine enough aiming point to be accurate out to 250 yards or so. I would really like to keep the bill under $300.

I've got a Springfield Armory M1A Squad Scout. I've got both the Leupold 1.5-4X Scout Scope and their 2.5 X SS. Currently, I've got the 2.5X model on the rifle and sighted in. It has a larger eye box than the 1.5-4X and is just as clear/sharp. That's plenty of magnification for big game at 250 yds. Years ago, I had a custom Scout Rifle with the Burris 2.7X Scout Scope. Not nearly as bright or sharp as the two Leupolds. BTW, while the 1.5-4X does allow one to use it at 4X, it cuts down a lot on the eye box, that's the fore and aft leeway one has to see the entire image. I didn't find it helped much at 250-300 yd. shooting. E

I use an EOtech on my SOCOM 16

I used a Burris 2-7 on a M1A Scout on the forward mount, but want to say it was their pistol scope. The eye relief worked fine but the field of view was too narrow for my liking. I ended up going to a scope mounted over the receiver.

I just bought a Leupold FXII 2.5 Scout scope. Should have it by the end of the week. I'll let everyone know how I like it once it arrives.

I just use the Vortex red dot which came with my M1A SOCOM rifle. Works like a champ!
