Damnit you guys! You made me haul out my only .58......... actually .577. Original Pattern 53 dated 1857. Have shot it some with 68 gr. FF under a Mini' and she still lays 'em in there! Early doe season is a couple weekends away, maybe I'll see if it'll still send a "Yankee" to the promise land. (my freezer)

Awesome piece.

My PH, as expected shot pretty high, so I'm going to have to cobble up a higher front sight for field use. Have a plan, and what I need is on the way. It's only a replica, but I want to preserve its original state so will use epoxy to fit a higher blade over the original. No rush, the Mountaineer Heritage season isn't until January, although if I make meat with something else early on, I might get it out sooner.

Got quite a backlog of unblooded rifles at present.

Hey, I ain’t gotta dog in this hunt, but just saw this posted today on Log Cabins webpage. The Kindigs are good folks to do business with. They have been in the business over 80 years. Just throwing it out if someone is interested.

I picked up a nice TC big Boar back in the spring. Found a take off renegade stock with set triggers and put the barrel in it. It shoots really well with PRB and 100gr of Black MZ. Ive got a primitive mountain deer hunt/bear scout trip coming up the first week of oct and hopefully I can let it breathe fire. Keep an eye out for a bigboar , they are very nice. Hard to beat the old TC sidelocks.

That sounds nice. never cared for the original BB stock, though goodness knows the recoil pad is probably welcome.

A guy I worked with in the 90s had one, and had a stroke not long after he started shooting it. A coincidence? Perhaps. He stoked it to the max, and shot the big Maxis.

You guys are making me sick. Yep! You've caused an instant relapse of my chronic case of Fifty-Eight Fever. I acquired my third 58 (pictures below) over a year ago and haven't even shot it yet (too many guns/too little time). The guy I bought it from had it built is 1976 but could not remember the builder's name.

Nice light colored .58 Semisane! Ya gotta get out and shoot'er though. I'm pretty sure it's a misdemeanor to own a .58 in Louisiana and not shoot it at least annually.

Semisane,

Nice old rifle. Looks to me like it might have started life out as an old Sharon "Trade Rifle" kit!!! With some custom additions/work! A great catch! I bet it shoots plumb!!!!

Lets hear how she shoots!!!

I better throw my .58 in here. Some of you fellas might know more about this Gun than i do, i am just going off of what i have Read about it.

I bought this .58 Cal Rifle about a year ago New Unfired. Navy Arms Hawken Hunter, 3 Groove. From what I have read this was somewhat of a Pet Project of Navy Arms owner Val Forgett back in the Day, They Proofed the Hawken Hunter with 200 Grains of 3F Powder and a 610 Grain Minie, Val settled on 180 Grains of 3F, And a Thick Skirted 610 Grain Minie called a “Stake Buster” There is an Article in one of the Lyman Handbooks on this Rifle in Africa, They killed about everything BIG there with it 👍 Everything about this Rifle is Built HELL for Stout! 1-1/8” across the Flats, Solid Stainless Ramrod, Solid Brass under Rib.
