I finally found an affordable Mauser with a Mannlicher style stock on it. It's a small ring chambered in 7x57. It currently does not have sling mounts. I would like to put a traditional mannlicher style front sling mount on it. I've found them online, but am hesitant to order as I have zero clue how they go on. Any advise?

Sling mounts can be attached in several ways. The Ruger way uses a loop that is affixed via a screw through the stock. My Original Mauser uses a stud that screws through the stock into a threaded barrel band. My Husqvarna simply uses a regular sling swivel stud. Take your pick.

I wonder why not adapt the Ruger mount to it?
Ought to be simple.
What do you think?

I would also be inclined to run it through something like this under the wood..

The ability to adapt and or utilize a Ruger style or NECG loop depends on the existing stock. Much easier to do when carving the stock as you simply make it to fit the hardware.

This one is a WIP. I'll be using a loop and fitting the screw though the existing barrel band. As you can see, I'll be whittling down the stock to fit the loop.

Glad to see the photos, was getting ready to ask. Looks like it will be a nice looker. Be Well. Rusty

I use an under-lug and pass the swivel screw through it sideways.
Works very well, it's strong and there is far less chance of pulling too hard and splitting the wood out. Full-stocks are thin and slender if they are made right, so attaching to wood only is risky if you hunt in thick timber or steep ground, where a stumble can catch the sling or rifle and yank on it. My under-lugs are 1/4" wide and the screw I use is a #10, so the attachment is quite strong.
