Similar... Some times lying flat on my back helps, at others a thick pillow between my knees also helps.. Not sure the cause..

I have had pain like that for 12 years since I turned 45. I quit eating bread and starch a couple of months ago and I don't hurt anymore.

If you’re a side sleeper, try a pillow between your knees. Helps the Q angle.

Yes

I have it too, can you sandwich thin a pillow between them and try sleeping on your side?

Or have had any cortisone shots in that joint?

I don't sleep worth a shît, because of knee pain usually. I go from recliner to bed and back 2-3 times a night.

One more thing, are you drinking plenty of water?

See a doc.
Buy a soft brace and give the knee less flex until you see a doc.
Small pillow between legs until you see a doc.

Laugh and then try this. Rub some WD40 on your knees and see if that helps. It sure helped mine.

If you see a doc have him check your hips. Wife had a knee done for nothing because the doc was a knee guy. After it didnt help her pain he decided to check the rest of the leg. That pillow helps

I have had operations, synvisc injection etc. pain for too many years.

My wife used to complain of me moaning in pain in my sleep.

Recently I quit carbs and that has given me the best pain relief.

While giving up certain foods, give up diet pop if you drink it. I think it took about a month after I quit to be generally pain free.

In the meantime, go to Wholefoods and they have a combination bottle of Calcium/Magnesium. Take a couple of those right before bedtime. It definitely helps aches/pains and restless leg syndrome.
