Seems we have a few armchair arborist on the fire. Need advice. The property has a bunch of red oaks, white oaks, few walnuts, one nice tall hickory. Oak wilt is a problem in the neighborhood and neighbors have lost trees to it. In the last couples of years I have cut down a few red oaks and one white oak. I bought the house partially because of the trees, now I want to sell it because of the trees.

A large branch dropped off of this white oak and I am not sure what to do. My concern is the open wound will or could be a problem. Should I paint over the wound as best I can? Cut the tree down and paint over the stump? Drink a beer and not worry about it? My concern is oak wilt spreading and affecting a large percentage of the trees, losing a few is no big deal. I have also read the white oaks are more resistant, so maybe I am worrying too much?

Thanks in advance for any good advice and some of the bad advice.

ps...i feel like such a f-ing idiot trying to post pictures to this site. all you old bastards have it down and i am attaching the lame link.
