Fellas ive decided I need one for around the farm, my thoughts are 22 mag over 20 gauge I would like to be able to mounts a suitable scope. There are plenty of these rifles for sale down here mostly 22 lr over 410.

I would be grateful for advise on what was the best quality period to look for maybe s/n range we don't see many of the deluxe version

All of them work about the same, but I'd look for something in the 1965-1975 range.

I like the 2-piece B-Square Weaver adapters, or the cheaper Chinese knockoffs, to install 1" diameter tube scopes with your choice of Weaver style rings of my rimfire Savage 24s. I like Warne QD rings on my Savage 24s, so that I can quickly dismount the scope for wing shooting upland game.

The .22 LRs and .22 MAGs have the same bore diameter, so it is easy to convert a .22 to .22 MAG with a .22 MAG finish reamer if you are so inclined.

Howdy,

You are on the right track toward caliber choice for versatility. (22WMR over 20 ga.). However: scoping that arrangement is problematic: The rimfire barrels (LR/WMR) are grooved for 3/8 dovetail mounts and firing the shotgun barrel WILL result in the scope moving in the mounts on that groove.

Believe me: I tried putting 4 rings on the scope and even cutting "shark teeth" in the clamps to grip the groove better. The scope and mounts still traveled and was probably on its way to escaping. Better choice is a good receiver peep mounted to the side of the 20ga barrel (lots of wall thickness there to drill and tap). Williams made a very small one that clamped on the dovetail and they stay put. (Not much mass to them). That is past tense and the newer Williams is pretty massive (might keep moving once its started by recoil).

The centerfire rifle barrels (.223/222, etc) have a ramp on top that is drilled for Weaver bases. These work VERY well, and I have shot sessions of trap with the low power scope to lots of fun. (you will want to pattern your bird barrel to know where it delivers when the rifle barrel is sighted in to the scope).

Have six of these guns. My favorite and most used is the WMR/20. It is an early one with the barrels welded together the whole length (as opposed to hung on a forward barrel band or welded stanchion). This full length attachment turns the slim rimfire barrel into the accuracy of a bull barrel gun.

Interesting one just came up over here 24V in 222 rem/ 20 gauge deluxe model, a real clean rifle asking $900.00 AUD so around $600.00 USD I don't think it will sell at that price
