It's gone. The old bargain cave is now their camo section.

In the Hamburg PA store the old bargain cave is also was the Camo section, but last time I was in town there was twice as much "SHE" camo compared to normal mens camo.

There were no women buying camo but there was 5 or 6 men saying WTF? What happenned to camo for men?

The one in Lexington, KY has good roasted almonds. About the only thing worth buying in there.

I really miss Sportsmans Wharehouse, unfortunately the Cabela's in Green Bay is only a mail order drop off site. Bass Pro can't figure out the weather in the South is a little different than up here and warm weather camo doesn't work in December. I had an employee laugh at me when I asked for two items on a sale flyer, he said we won't get those in until after the sale is over!

The Cabela's warranty is also going away, especially on boots as they are only pushing Bass Pro junk now.

When a sporting goods store starts having more clothes than "stuff" it's the sign that they've gone over the edge of the waterfall. There's no way back up.

So I took the drive down to the Cabelas in El Paso today knowing it probably wouldn't be worth my time but what the hell, I was bored so I did it any way. A friend told me they had a fly tying section and I've been looking for an ITW holster for my HK P30SK.

As soon as I went inside I made my way over to the fishing section. The guy in that department saw me coming and immediately asked if I needed help. I asked him if he had a fly tying section and he enthusiastically answered "Yes! Right this way." Now that kind of took me by surprise because I really didn't expect them to have one, but my surprise was short lived. Apparently his idea of a "section" was a small rack that was mostly empty with about five or six items hanging from it. When I looked at him with what must have been a "WTF?" expression on my face, he sheepishly said, " Yeah, I'm kind of low on stock at the moment."

So with that bust in mind, I headed over to the guns department. I found an in the waist tuckable holster marked for Springfield XD compact. I have a holster that I can fit both my XD and P30 in so I went over to the gun counter where they had a P30SK in order to ask if I could try it in the holster to see how it would fit. The girl behind the counter took the holster from me and then took out the pistol and put it half way in but had to stop because of the gun lock. She then looked at me and said "It looks like it would fit but I Can't take off the gun lock here. I'd have to go in the back to do it." I asked if I could go back there with her so I could try for myself and she said no, but that I could watch her through a window. It was about then that I thought about asking if she wanted to try on a pair of shoes for me too, but then thought the better of it and just said " That's ok, thanks..." and walked away.

About the only thing I've found Cabelas useful for lately has been clothing when it's on sale. Otherwise it's just high priced bullshit and the people who work there don't know shyte from shinola. It's kind of like the Home Depot of sporting goods...

They have enshrouded themselves in the BassPro retail model.

I feel your pain. Sucks.

Bass Pro has killed Cabelas. Only thing I have bought in a Cabelas store in 2 years has been the Almonds...............

They had been going down hill for a while. The BPS takeover just kicked it into overdrive.

They suck.

Everyone hates cabelas now...me included...you know it's our own fault....not theirs...we flocked in and helps them build an empire...when they replaced all the store stock with import crap we still flocked...in the meantime the small sporting goods stores that had good products and customer service went buy the wayside...
Sportsman warehouse is way better they have a fantac buesness model...and the stores were never as big as bass pro or cabelas but always had more selection at better prices...the employees were way better...sad I don't have one within 300 miles...

I too was in both bass pro and down town Sydney store...my grand parents lived in Carthage mo and we went to bass pro every time we visited..it was in what seem a converted grocery store then they bought up all the building around them...my mothers brother lived in Cheyenne so cabelas was always a stop when we were out that way for a visit...
We are witnessing a change in buesness practice...I'm thinking the mega store thing is over...catalog sales is a thing of the past...its Amazon now...may be for the best for us...that will leave just guns and ammo and small gun stores and good service...

The one in Anchorage is pretty decent but since they've moved in we now have more options on where to buy outdoor gear.

Here's another brilliant BPS/Cabelas move:

They have a new binocular/RF unit branded Cabelas something or other. It costs about $1k, and comes with a paltry 1 yr warranty. They park it in the counter right next to the Vortex (lifetime warranty), Nikon (lifetime warranty), and Sig (lifetime/5yr). Then they try and sell you an extended *2yr warranty on the Cabelas unit for another $270 through a third party. I asked the guy what genius came up with that idea and of course it's some idiot at Bass Pro. I had a Cabelas card for over 10 years easily, and cancelled it not long after BPS came along. They both suck big time.

Chinese hookers who sell also double as Chinese clerks selling Chinese merchandise? No thanks...

Everyone here is right on. Our Cabelas just as well be a Big 5. How can someone who is smart enough to build a business like Bass Pro and become a billionaire be so absolutely stupid to buy a business like Cabelas and drive it into the ground by basically abandoning all of it’s customers? UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Is this some kind of giant tax write off? To loose millions of dollars by driving a business into bankruptcy?

Thank god we still have Sportsman’s Warehouse!

I’ve been avoiding going into Cabelas since Brass Pole took over. It’s too aggravating to walk in and say, “yep, that’s where the boots used to be, now it’s flip flops, that’s where the Dry Plus clothing used to be, now is women’s Columbia athletic shirts.”

What a joke!

Chinese hookers would definitely be an improvement!

Wait......
You went into Cabelas, expecting to find a good holster? That was never a thing.

Lunatic fringe....we all know you're out there.
