I think the biggest contributor to the dropping stock market is China devaluing the Yuan.
Basically, it has the same effect as when a country dumps products on a country in order to drive the competition out of business.
Of course, it's going to hurt China, too. But China is willing to take the hit in order to damage the American economy in retaliation for the tariffs.
,...and before the knotheads start jumping on me for being against Trump's tariffs,....I'm not. It's just that I acknowledge that when a country embarks on a trade war, there's going to be repercussions.
China has become a huge trading partner with America. When they manipulate their currency, it's going to cause a big ripple in America.
The end result of the trade conflict will come down to who blinks first.
Actually,......I think China will win this round. Trump can't afford to go into 2020 with the stock market down.
China doesn't give a damn what price it has to pay because it doesn't affect the elite in China. It will allow its people to take the hit in order to get the tariffs reduced.
The only *real* way for Trump to win is to tariff Chinese goods so hard that the Chinese wouldn't be able to devalue the yuan enough to offset the tariffs.
Eventually, that would bring a lot of American manufacturers out of China and back to America. But in the meantime,..the Dow is going to take a hit.
It's worth it to me just to be able to watch American economic games being played that the Fed has no control over.
The dollar, gold, and the stock market is being jerked around by elements that doesn't involve the Fed,....and they're schitting their pants over it. They are at a 17 year low in output even CNN is reporting that.

If we are going to have a recession, as the left clearly wants, it should be short and shallow, nothing like 2008-2009. The fundamentals of our economy are still sound. Hopefully we will be back to growth when Nov. 2020 rolls around.

Have we ever seen Trump 'back down?' He knows it comes down to who blinks first....there IS a middle ground, IF both sides come to the table...
Yes, the Dems and China would both love to see the market crash to hope for a loss in 2020.
It will be interesting, but make no mistake, both know that is their only hope for THEIR Agenda.
Should no deal happen, how much further will that damage China, and how will their citizens react?

You are astute! Yes I noticed that last night on NBC Nightly News, they had several experts saying this is the harbinger of a recession.
And, even am 750 in Atlanta last night, same story made the headlines. Normally am 750 is not politically involved. But the lead story on the radio, this was a sign that a recession is imminent.
These fools are all cheering for a recession because that is the only thing that could knock Trump out of office. Pathetic.

In the past, Tiananmen Square - yes, but they were saying in today's time, the world is watching what China will do, as many nations do business with China so can they risk another T.S. 2.0? I don't know...it will be interesting how it all plays out. What I know is, if....or when the next Dem wins the W.H. and Congress.....it's Obama 2.0 and we will go the way of Venezuela as the Dems push America far left.

They are probably blathering incessantly about recession because the yield curve inverted yesterday. While that is a recession indicator what they don't tell you is that it does not always work and often leads recessions by 15 to 18 months.
