I have heard several times, possibly even from a crop duster pilot, that a cornfield is a desirable emergency landing field. The corn lays over under the aircraft and cushions it almost like a water landing, with no danger of drowning.
I might imagine wheels up would be preferred to landing gear getting hung up in soft earth or mud and flipping the aircraft.

Yes you can hear,what appears to be,the engine sputtering. Jet engines don’t sputter! One of three things aka flame out, sling a blade/blades or blow up quickly!
