I have been interested with 22 bench test shooting for some time and just visited my first matched. I am now hooked. Anyone else on 24HCF into this type of shooting? How to learn? What make/ brand of rifle ? Gunsmith? Front rest? I have a March 10x60 scope sitting in my safe that could be used? Any help / recommendations on this new adventure would be greatly appreciated

This probably isn't the best forum to find the info you need. I've watched .22 benchrest develop in this area, and over a few years grow into a highly competitive, technical (and expensive) game.

For starters, check out rimfirecentral, and do a search on rimfire benchrest.

My suggestion, buy or make some good wind flags. Rimfire BR is a wind game, and the best equipment won't win if you don't learn to handle wind. I could tell you a bunch of stories about inexperienced .22 BR shooters tearing their hair out over equipment when it was the wind playing games with them. Also, don't try to "practice" with cheap substandard ammo. Unless you can afford it, this doesn't necessarily mean buying Eley Tenex by the case, but your ammo has to be up to your rifle and the level of competition you are participating in, i.e. club match vs. major event.

Get a $6,000 rifle, your scope is great, but probably too heavy to make weight, $1100 for a decent rest, and $600 for top notch wind flags. Send your rifle to Dan Killough, www.killoughshootingsports.com. Dan has the only Eley test center in the USA. He will mount your rifle in a special machine rest and match the correct ammo to your rifle. You can then buy a case of the correct ammo from Dan. Almost forgot, you ain't gonna place with out the best adjustable barrel tuner.
