Thinking of having a smokeless built.

Done a good bit of online research

Nobody seems to spend much time talking about recoil but simple math says a 300gr bullet at ~2800 FPS is going to be brutal.

Am I missing something? They offer brakes but I hate those things

Well that is in the same league as a hot 460 Weatherby mag load with a 300 grain bullet, so the recoil is also going to be about the same.

If you think a 460 Weatherby is moderate, then your recoil is going to be moderate.

That’s my thinking. A 375 ultra shoots a 300 grain bullet about 2800 fps. I don’t think of that or the 469 as “moderate”

You don’t “feel” recoil if your shooting at a deer. 😜

How far do you want to shoot?
What type of build/ignition are you thinking?
I've found the 275gr Pittman's to hold sub MOA out to 400 w/ only 65gr H4198... way less recoil than when I was trying 300-350grainers and way more powder.
Also, many of these guns weigh in around 10-12# scoped.

I want to be able to shoot to 400 yards. Further not necessary

I’m planning to use a model seven donor (already have it), a McM Remington Classic stock (already have it) and a Victory Diavari 2.5-10x42 with ASV+ turret (already have it). Hankins ignition system. Hoping builder can stuff a 6 contour barrel in the McMillan

I may put some steel bar stock in the BDL mag well to add some weight

Yes I’m think 250 or 275 grain bullets will be the way to go

Still going to be on the stout side but thinking I can make it manageable

Sounds like a great plan to me! If you pick up a smooth sizing die, I bet 400 w those bullets will be no problem and recoil not too bad if you keep your charges less than 65gr.
