I have a couple Fieldcrafts. One is a 21” 6.5 Creedmoor with the barrel threaded 1/2x28 for my Silencerco Omega. That thing consistently shoots 3/4” groups @ 100 with Hornady 140gr BTHP American Gunner and 143 eldx Precision Hunter loads. I LOVE THIS GUN.

I also have an 18” 308 fieldcraft but I haven’t yet found a good “off the shelf” factory load for it. I don’t reload nor do I intend to. I’d like to find something I can kill whitetail with that’s around $1/rd and I can purchase by the case. Accuracy around 1 MOA is all I need. What are you guys using for factory loads in your 308 Barretts?

Thanks!

I’ve found that if a rifle won’t shoot the Hornady 168 AMAX factory
load, it probably won’t shoot well with anything.

That’s a lot of grains, but it’ll kill a whitetail. I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you.

For just plain deer hunting, the Federal Fusion 150 grainer.

I see federal is running their annual rebate and I can get $50 rebate on a case of 150gr SP power shok or non-typical (same Ammo). At $.50/rd it’s worth rolling the dice. Always worked great in my M77 .270, cant imagine it’ll do worse in the Barrett.

The best blood trail that I ever had from a .308 was with a 165 grain Hornady Interlock. Admittedly it was a heart shot low in the chest on a broadside big whitetail, but a 50 yard run and blood starting only feet from where he stood sure made for easy trailing. The Hornady Whitetail series factory load with that bullet or a 150 grain Interlock should be inexpensive enough for anyone. Honestly I don't understand all the need for moa accuracy from one bullet to the next because all my deer are shot at close range and I want bullet performance through the deer, not on a target

My other auto is a .45

Well, so much for finding a good load. In the past few days I’ve learned that I (unexpectedly) drew a pronghorn tag and am also traveling across the country for a wedding, all within a few weeks. Going to be a very expensive autumn so my backup Barrett is going to the classifieds...

Well damn!
