I am thinking about dropping my dream of hunting Australia as I can't see the hassle of bringing my personal hunting tools. It looks like the socialists are trying hard to win. I could rent one after arriving but find my preference of 12.75" to 12.5" LOP quite hard to find in ANY hunting camp. Be Well. Packy

Travelling anywhere internationally with firearms is not easy but not impossible either. Given your LOP requirements you need to bring in your firearms to enjoy your hunt. You don't say what you're hunting or where you will be hunting, as different states have varying requirements. As long as you aren't going to or travelling through WA it shouldn't be too much of a problem bringing your firearm/s with you, assuming they are not semi autos or handguns. However you do have to apply for permits and I assume you will need a permit to take them with you outside of the USA.

From a previous post of yours it sounds like you're looking to hunt buffalo in the NT. Most likely you will fly into the East Coast, probably Sydney, and then take internal flights to your destination in the NT.

Any decent outfitter you use can or should help you with the process and would likely do or at least help with most of the paperwork required.

Thanks I don't know if I can swing it financially but would like to try. Not committed yet. But thinking about buffalo, scrub bull, hogs, etc. with medium bores or larger. I have to decide on 9.3s or 358s or 458s. I also think about Argentina so I have to commit first. Could take a 260 and one of the 358s or 458 American. The American could end up a 458 WM. Too many decisions and too much time. Why can't a guy just take a whole rack of guns???? I know, at 5'1" and 170# I am pretty intimidating! Ha! Commies everywhere, I hope they don't research my Spacebook. They might decide I'm anticommie. My tattoo might just say Kill a Commie For Mommy. I came of age in that era. Some of you yahoos remember that era in 'Murica. Lots of my buddies did their class trip in sunny Southeast Asia. Will have to get back to reality here and think over those questions about which gun to use and hunt to buy. Double gun, Bolt trash, lever gun? A 9.3 would do for all of the hogs, scrubbers and buff, plus any other critters you might bump into in the NT such as donkeys and such. So would a .458, but you'd be able to bring fewer rounds (maximum 5 kg gross). Of course you could ask your outfitter to lay in a supply of ammunition for you.

If you brung a 30-06 loaded with 180g X-Bullets or Partitions you’d do it all.

I only own a Garand in 30-06. That would scare the bejeebers out of the airport officials. Everyone else, not so much. I would still like to hunt in OZ. One of the places along with Argentina and Africa that have been on my mind for years. But Oz and Argentina I believe to be more affordable and still have buffaloes, pigs, and other bigger tougher stuff. Thanks for the ideas. Be Well. Rusty

Could you get a chassis stock, or one with an aluminum bedding setup,
cut it to fit, and take it with you for a rented gun?

Having invested hundred$ in a stock, you would just have to build something
on it when you come home.

Or, buy a used rifle of the type you are going to rent, cut it, take that.
This would be the cheapest route.

I took my rifles when I hunted Australia about 10 years ago. It was a minor hassle with customs coming and going but nothing too hard to do. I would do it again if I ever hunt there again. Of course, if I can't hunt with my own rifle, I choose to stay home.
