Two of these loads are powered by 53.5 grains of IMR 4350 CCI 250 primers, cases are Winchester, the only differences are the bullets. These being the 130 gr. Speer BTSP and the 130 gr. Nosler Partition.

The Speer BTSP is getting 3135 fps from 3 shots averaged.

The Nosler Partition is getting 3130 fps.

The third load uses AA3100 I am trying to burn up. Winchester cases, CCI 250 primers and 59.0 grs. of AA3100 topped with the Sierra 130 gr. BTSP. This load gives 3115 fps.

Temperatures today are over 100 degrees. The rifle is a Ruger M77, 22 inch barrel. I know the velocities are a bit high but the cases show no signs of high pressure, extract easily and all three bullets shoot into MOA.

In my Win 70 24" Bbl 270. A load right out of my Barnes manual. 59.5grs Rel 19 with the Barnes 130gr TSX. I made one change I loaded the 129gr Barnes 129gr LRX. Barnes shows 3211 with the 130gr, 24" Bbl. My chrono shows 3259 with the 129gr LRX. Not the slightest sign of pressure . In a 22" Bbl you would be looking at 60 to 70 fps less. Long case life & primer pockets stay tight.

I was expecting around 2950 fps but an extra 80 fps or so won't hurt anything. Might be that the warm temps we are presently not enjoying are upping velocities a bit.

Forgot to mention I used this same load 59.5 grs Rel 19 with Win 130gr power points & got almost exactly the same velocity as the Barnes 129gr LRX. All loads were very accurate. . Can't have enough receipts. I am primarily a 6.5 enthusiast but I came across this Win 70 270 last spring. Stainless control round feed with 24" Bbl. Like new condition. I'm a sucker for Win stainless CRF rifles. This load shoots great . I'm not a long range hunter but this load has no problem making repeated ( Barnes 129 LRX ) hits on my 522yd target. That's as far as I can get on my range. They are all fun..

I like accurate rifles bore diameter not withstanding. Since I presently own a rifle in every bore diameter up to 35 caliber my die and bullet selection is out of control!

That is good stuff. I have never owned a .270, let alone a Winchester. My guns have always been Savages and Remingtons-most with Criterion barrels now. I recently traded for a Winchester .270, that is of mid-90s vintage. The guy that I traded out of it, brought it out and I shot it on my range. He had three boxes of Hornady Whitetail ammo. I put two shots through the same hole at 100 yards, and that is with an old Bushnell, less-than-fantastic scope on it! I did the trade right there. I really don't even have to mess with the scope, for that ammo.

I have not chrono'd the ammo yet, but figured it to be around 3000 fps. Maybe it will surprise me! The only problem is that I was trying to streamline my calibers a bit and instead, just added another one! I, too, have become a 6.5 fan.

Anybody using Re-17? I think it gets the highest velocities in Sierra's #6.

If Rel 17 beats Rel 19 in the safe velocity of the 270 with a 130gr bullet I would like to hear??. Always looking for new info.

In my tired R77 270 using 55 gr R17 pushing a 130 Nosler Solid Base I get just under 3000fps.

I wonder why this rifle gets the velocity it does using less than max charges of powder? I did not expect to get more than 3000fps.

Read all you want, but you have actually shoot em to know for sure.

rickt300, Those are real good numbers, and if it shoots well....you have a winner. And the best thing is, the loads were developed on a hot day.....so you not have any “pressure” surprises! memtb

Have a 77 Red pad also that is giving me .5 - .6" groups at 200 yds with Fed Prem 130gr SPBTs. Haven't chrono'd the factory Ammo but I'm more than happy with the way it handles and shoots.

From factory ammo that I have chronoed ( Rem,Win ) 130gr bullets are doing between 2800 & 2900 fps. The only factory ammo I have seen do better that this has been Norma.
