AS above? I have some in progress of basswood. Shaped primes and some with base color. Anyone make them. Is there a collector's market to acquire old home made or others? Maybe get a couple of sizes of Lazy Ike/ flatfish? I would like to get the correct shape for proper action. I don't see the lazy Ike or equivalent on the market. TIA Be Well. Rusty

Check out Lyman Lures design.
Good luck. There is always a market for the next hottest fishing lure.

I had a good buddy who recently passed, he collected vintage J plugs. They look like an upside down PopR and are used for salmon trolling. He had hundreds of old originals, hand painted with glass eyes. We fished some of them our last summer together and caught a few silvers. Seems like he told me that most of the ones he had were pre WWII. He had huge shadow boxes full of them decorating his living room.

Years ago I made many with really nice woods and minimal paint. After catching a few fish, usually pike they were retired for display. It was a bit of fun.

I'm ready to paint six of them but researching whatever I can find. I would like to get a couple of examples of the old Lazy Ike (flat fish). I want to make several variations. One old author also called them the "Viggler". I had some but I think my kids used them up while growing up. I thought I might still have the tiny fly fishing style somewhere. Will be found when I don't care anymore. Be Well. Rusty

I couldn't tell whether they were still in business or not. Might buy a couple to fish with. Never saw what I remember as the Lazy Ike. I would like to still find one somewhere. Thanks for the information. The Lyman story was most interesting. If you make good lures to sell in good colors I think there is still a market. But I'm just wanting to do it for retirement fun. Be well. Rusty.

I have a few that I had made out of white pine (recycled an old Christmas tree) I haven't gotten around to painting them yet though. Will post pictures when I get them done.

I used to make homemade Zara Spooks out of broom handles. Had a lot of fun with it and caught a lot of fish that way until they changed the material in broom handles.

Do you have white Pine, Basswood, Catalpa, Poplar, white or western Cedar? Almost any wood light enough to float will provide action if shaped right. Same thing for sinking lures. The shape and weight distribution makes it work. Floaters look like they need some weight or they won't stay upright. I would still like to buy a Lazy Ike for a sample. Does anyone have one they would part with? It was billed as a trolling lure. But I used them for years as a bass killer in ponds and lakes in Misery. I don't care what the size is. I can scale it where I want it. TIA and Be Well, Rusty.

Found some Lazy Ikes. Go to MyBaitShop.com They have all kinds of lures in several variations of size color, and shape. Some seem to be collectable as NIB and never opened. I'm ready to go out and try some lures. Just need to find some ponds to try them in. Be Well, Rustyzipper.
